COLFAX — With the weather cooperating for at least one day, the Elk Mound baseball team came to Colfax last Tuesday and went home with a 10-2 win over the Vikings.
After a scoreless first inning, the Mounders picked up two runs in the top of the second when Carter Garnett led off by drawing a walk, stealing second and scoring on a double by Lucas Johnson. Jacob Osborne slammed his own double to bring in Johnson for a 2-0 lead.
Colfax responded with a run in their half of the inning when Brian Tuschl singled, moved up on a ground ball out and came home on a double by Zach Hiitola to cut the Mounder lead in half.
Elk Mound added to their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third when Kaden Russo reached base on one of six Viking errors, stole second to move into scoring position and came around to score on another double off the bat of Johnson, who ended up scoring on a base hit by Kamron Diermeier.

Four more runs in the fourth inning gave the Mounders an 8-1 advantage as Jerome Delikowski, Russo, Garnett and Johnson all crossed the plate. Johnson had the biggest blast in the inning with his third double of the game.
After a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, Elk Mound added a run in the top of the sixth when Delikowski and Osborne both drew a free pass and Delikowski came home on a Ryan Bartig base hit.
The Vikings matched that run in their half of the inning with Elijah Entzminger drawing a one out walk, moving to second on a Mounder error and coming around to score on a Mitch Medin double. A pair of strikeouts ended their chance of getting the score any closer.
Carter Vieth came around to score the Mounder’s final run in the seventh inning, taking a free pass, moving up on a passed ball and a ground out and coming in on a Colfax error.

Johnson had a stellar night for the Mounders, batting 4-for-5 with four RBIs while scoring three times. Diermeier was 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Russo and Garnett both came home twice and Garnett had a pair of stolen bases. Johnson earned the victory on the mound, hurling 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Diermeier and Victor Noller both pitched two innings and Garnett finished off the game.
Ben Bailey absorbed the loss for the Vikings, throwing four innings, giving up eight runs with only two earned, on eight hits, four Ks and two free passes. Ashton Greenwell pitched three innings and relinquished two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Six Vikings all had one hit with Hiitola and Medin both banging a double and each getting an RBI.
