LAKE HALLIE — It was pretty safe to say there would be no outdoor softball games being played last week (or this week) with a heavy coating of snow on all the fields, but the Colfax girls found an indoor field to play on last week.
The Vikings took on the Glenwood City Hilltoppers at the VSA Facility in Hallie and with help from an eight-run fifth inning, took care of the Toppers 12-2 in six innings.
Leading 4-1 after four innings, Jada Anderson slammed an inside-the-park grand slam to help put the game away. The Toppers picked up a run in the fifth but were shut down the rest of the way when Alexis Schindler took over from Mallory Field in the pitching circle.
Anderson batted 2-for-3 with a double and her home run gave her four RBIs. McKenna Shipman and Brynn Sikora both picked up two hits and an RBI each while Ella Peterson and Hannah Peterson both doubled and Schindler and Olivia Runowski all banged out a hit each. Field picked up the win, throwing five innings and striking out four Toppers before Schindler finished it off.
Although both teams play in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference, this game was considered non-conference, according to Colfax coach John Dickinsen. Colfax will travel back to Hallie to take on Boyceville Tuesday, April 4 in a game also considered non-conference.
