Mission Restoring Hope Fill the truck drive for Turkey/Syria earthquake victims
BOYCEVILLE — The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria leaves over 41,000 dead and the race to get survivors out from under the rubble is still occurring. Thousands of people are left homeless and displaced in these regions. There are many stories coming out of this area of children without clothing and the lack of basic needs which leaves your heart aching to help.
Humanitarian groups on the ground are trying to give aid but so much more help is necessary to help all those impacted. Some these humanitarian groups are based in the United States and have the infrastructure to get essential items gathered here, to their sources in Turkey/Syria, that will disperse items to those in need.
Mission Restoring Hope is a Boyceville, WI non-profit that is hearing the call for help. Together with Boyceville United Methodist Church, they are sponsoring a donation drive to get needed supplies to victims. The collected items here, will be transported to Matthew 25 Ministries, an international humanitarian center, in Blue Ash, Ohio.
Mission Restoring Hope is a nonprofit formed with a mission of helping people in crisis by providing essential items. They will be a collection site for you to be able to drop off new and good pre-owned essential items moving forward, but for today- the focus is on Turkey/Syria.
Donations accepted are clothing of all sizes, shoes, winter wear, bottled water (12 or 24 count), personal care items, cleaning supplies, paper products, first-aid items, candles, flashlights including batteries, clean-up supplies. You can refer to our website for a more detailed list at missionrestoringhope.org or on our Facebook page.
We have an additional ask for donations, the truck rental and gas to take these items to Ohio is about $700 (10-hour drive). We are hoping that someone will come forward to donate a truck and driver to help us out. The challenge is until we hold the drive, it is hard to judge what size truck is needed. We are looking for monetary donations to cover this expense just in case. If our expense is less, than we will donate the cash donated to render more aid to the Turkey/Syria. So, 100% of what you donate goes for this drive and this area.
The donation drop off location will be the United Methodist Church of Boyceville, located on Hwy 170 by Andy Pafko park. Times are:
• Thursday, February 23, 3-7 p.m.
• Saturday, February 25, 9 a.m.-noon
• Thursday, March 2, 3-7 p.m.
• Saturday, March 4, 9 a.m.-noon
We are also looking for volunteers to help sort and pack the items collected. For additional times or questions, contact Doreen at 715-505-1621.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and let’s send a bit of Wisconsin love to help those in need.
