EAU CLAIRE — Hoping to get a pair of non-conference games in before the holiday break, the Colfax girl hoopsters traveled to Eau Claire to take on the Regis Ramblers December 19 and came away with a 57-45 win. But the home contest scheduled against Ladysmith three days later was postponed due to yet another snowstorm that hit the entire area.
McKenna Shipman started things off for the Vikings with a shot in the paint and Jada Peterson scored on a put back and hit a free throw with it. Jeanette Hydukovich got into the scoring action with two consecutive buckets in the lane for a 9-4 Viking lead. Molly Heidorn drained a triple, Kaysen Goodell drove end to end for a layup and added a free toss and it was 15-5 for Colfax. Jaycey Bowe became the sixth Viking to put points up with a close range shot and it was 17-5.
Colfax had a 10-point lead at 23-13 but the Ramblers put up six points, cutting the Viking advantage to 23-19 and the lead was even slimmer at 25-22 before Shipman, Heidorn and Anderson scored from close range. But it was a couple of long shots from Shipman that gave them some breathing room as her second triple at the buzzer came from somewhere on Clairmont Avenue and gave the Vikings a 33-27 halftime lead.
Shipman started the second half much like the first, with a drive in the lane followed by another triple, and after Anderson dropped in a couple of free tosses, Heidorn drained another trey and it was 43-32. Aynsley Olson, who had been using a lot of energy keeping the Ramblers leading scorer, Ashley Chilson, in check, found the range on her own triple to make it 46-32 for the Vikings.
And the points just kept coming for Shipman as she connected on both a short range and a long range shot and it was 51-35 with around 8:00 left in the game.
Shipman added her final points of the night with her fifth trey to get the score to 54-35 and the rest of the Viking points came from the foul line as Olson hit 3-of-5 to finish off the win.
Shipman led all scorers with 25 points coming from five deuces while hitting 5-of-10 triples. Heidorn added eight points, Anderson collected seven while Olson and Anderson both scored six each.
As a team, Colfax connected on 8-of-20 shots behind the arc and were 7-for-10 at the foul stripe. Hydukovich snared a team leading eight rebounds and four blocked shots with three assists. Goodell grabbed seven rebounds, Anderson collected six rebounds and had three assists and three steals, Olson and Autumn Niggemann both grabbed five rebounds and Shipman finished with six rebounds and two assists.
Chilson, who averaged 16 points a game, was held to 13 for the Ramblers who were 11-for-14 at the free throw line with four triples.
Colfax will take a break and resume play Jan. 5, with a conference showdown at Elk Mound.
