COLFAX — If you can’t score, you can’t win!
That was Boyceville’s problem in a nut shell when it visited Colfax last Tuesday, December 13 for a Dunn-St. Croix girls’ basketball contest.
In what turned out to be its only game of the week, the Bulldogs were blitzed 59 to 21 by the Vikings, the reigning conference champions.
Boyceville managed to score just a half dozen points in the first half as Colfax went into the locker room carrying a 24 to 6 halftime advantage.
Even though the Bulldogs more than doubled their offensive production in the final half of play, scoring 15 points, the host Vikings also upped their output putting another 35 points on the scoreboard for the 38-point win.
Colfax ripped off the first 12 points of the game before Cora Leslie made a a basket for the Bulldogs’ first two points.
Hailey Hanestad added a free throw to make it 14-3.
Colfax’s McKenna Shipman had a hot hand scoring 13 of her game high 17 points in the first half to help the Vikings to a 24-4 advantage before Rachael Montgomery ended the half with a close range shot, putting the halftime score at 24-6.
The Bulldogs scored four quick points to start the second half but Colfax buckled down and went on yet another 12-point streak and were in control 38-8 and the route was on.
With eight points in the second half, Montgomery led the Bulldogs in scoring with ten points and tied for the rebound lead with Hanestad as each corralled seven. Cora Leslie finished with four points and Hanestad had three. Abby Schlough and Hannah Dunn each came up with a pair of steals.
Ten Vikings contributed to the scorebook led by Shipman’s 17 points. She also topped the rebounding charts with nine and had five steals. Molly Hiedorn added nine for Vikings.
Boyceville was 7-for-12 from the free throw line and although the Bulldogs launched five shots from long range, they did not connect on any of them and sank just seven of its 36 shot attempts. Colfax made seven triples in 24 tries and was 8-for-11 at the line.
The Bulldogs were suppose to host undefeated Elk Mound on Friday, December 16 but Boyceville closed school for the third consecutive day, postponing the game.
Boyceville will host unbeaten Cadott this Thursday, December 22 before taking a break for the holidays.
