It took a few extra weeks, but the Colfax/Elk Mound boys’ golf squad finally hit the links last week playing in a pair of Dunn-St. Croix meets to open its season.
C/EM finished third in both meets which were held at Glen Hills Golf Course near Glenwood City on Tuesday, April 19 and two days later, Thursday, April 21, at The Valley Golf Course in Mondovi.
Those outcomes put Colfax/Elk Mound in third place overall in the early-season standings of the Dunn-St. Crpox with 6 points.
Colfax/Elk Mound will play a pair of conference meets again this week with contests in Durand this past Monday and back in Mondovi this Friday. In between, C/EM will host an 18-hole invitational at Whitetail today (Wednesday, April 27). Whitetail will also be the site of a Dunn-St. Croix meet next Monday, May 2.
Glenwood City
Colfax/Elk Mound finished with a score of 203 in its opening meet of the season and conference which was held at Glen Hills Golf Course.
That scored allowed the locals to finish in third just eight points behind second-place Durand (195) and 13 points in back host Glenwood City, who won with a tally of 190. Spring Valley was fourth with a score of 232 and Mondovi came in last with a 245.
Leading C/EM was sophomore Jace Acker who shot a 46 in the nine-hole meet to finish in a tie for second place. Senior Luke Blanchard and sophomore Riley Krall each carded a 52 while sophomores Zane Brice and Christian Ebert both finished a stroke back with 53s.
Glenwood City’s Esdyn Swenby took medalist honors after shooting a 44.
The Colfax/Elk Mound junior varsity took second place with a score of 254 while Glenwood City won that competition as well with a total of 242. Junior Ty Myer had a 61 for the local JV with Matt Hanson hitting for a 62, Ethan Oas had a 65, Lauren Horchem and Kylie Irwin each shot a 66, Aidan Schindler finished with a 69 and Connor Albricht had a 71.
Mondovi
Although its team tally increased by seven strokes two days later on The Valley Golf Course in Mondovi, Colfax/Elk Mound still wound up in third place once again after scoring a 210.
Led by co-medalists Logan Weissinger and Simon Bauer (both shot a 45), Durand, last year’s conference champion, vaulted passed the Hilltoppers of Glenwood City to take first after shaving ten strokes off their team tally at Glen Hills to finish with a 185. Glenwood City scored 194 to finish as the runner-up. Taking fourth behind C/EM was Spring Valley with a 234 and Mondovi placed fifth with a 238.
Jace Acker once again topped the Colfax/Elk Mound contingent finishing in fourth place after carding a 47. Zane Brice shot a 51, Riley Krall a 53, and Christian Ebert and Luke Blanchard rounded out the varsity scores with 59s.
