ELK MOUND – On October 18 the Elk Mound Village Board approved a 10% increase for sewer rates. Public Works Director Mark Levra indicated the increase would help with system maintenance and updates. The motion to approve the increase included a stipulation that rates could increase again in the future. Levra also reported public works employees have also been busy trimming plants for right-of-way and around road signs.
After Levra’s report, Police Chief Chad Weinberger reported there were 120 calls for service in September. His most unusual call was for an individual under the age of 21 operating a vehicle after his license was revoked. The driver was also issued an insurance citation, and was cited for having open intoxicants in the vehicle and being in possession of THC. Weinberger said he has not identified any “trouble neighborhoods” in the village, and explained calls were scattered all over town geographically, but he has seen an uptick in calls on University Street and Holly Avenue since school started. He and Officer DeVries have been busy purging evidence, and working on investigations. Recently the department reported someone had piled leaves in the bathrooms at the Village Park, and set them on fire. Weinberger and DeVries are interested in hearing from anyone who may know more about this.
Trustees denied a motion to approve an operator license for Tara Cole of the Pourhouse, after Weinberger reported his background check indicated multiple alcohol-related offenses on Cole’s record.
The Village Board will meet next at 6 p.m. on November 1.
