ARCADIA — In a final tune-up before this Thursday’s Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet, the Boyceville cross country teams traveled south to Arcadia Saturday morning, October 9 to compete in the Gerald Holte Invitational.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 144 points and finished fifth out of eight complete teams as Jaden Stevens and Haylie Rasmussen both placed in the top 20 in a girls’ field of 83 runners.
Senior Brian Johnson took 50th to finish first among the four Boyceville male harriers that ran in Arcadia. With less than five competitors, the boys did not receive a team score.
Less than nine seconds separated Boyceville’s top two girls in Arcadia. Sophomore Jaden Stevens was the first to finish taking 14th place after running a 23:19.6. Junior Haylie Rasmussen came in three positions later, after her time of 23:28.1 was good for 17th.
It would take another two and a half minutes before the Lady Bulldogs third runner finished. Sophomore Sarah Stoveren completed her run in 26:03.9 to place 47th.
Some 45 seconds after Stoveren finished, freshman Lauren Becker ran over the finish line in 59th place with a time of 26:48.4.
Junior Rachel Montgomery was the final finisher for Boyceville securing 74th in 30:12.1.
Brian Johnson’s time of 20:54 gave the senior a top half finish among the 114 runners in the boys’ race last Saturday.
Freshman Michael Montgomery was the next Bulldog to complete the race, finishing the 5K in a time of 22:21 to place 70th.
Freshman Dominic Anderson and Aidan Madison were the final two Boyceville finishers. Anderson ran a 26:52.7 for 104th while Madison copped 107th after running a 27:52.7.
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau won both the boys’ and girls’ team championships. Senior Wesley Pronschinske of Cochrane-Fountain City was the top boy and Melrose-Mindoro sophomore Claire Becker was the girls’ champion.
Boyceville will join its fellow conference schools this Thursday in Mondovi to compete for this year’s Dunn-St. Croix cross country championship. Racing begins at 4:15 p.m. at the Valley Golf Course.
