ELK MOUND – On October 4, Village Trustees approved a $2,500 patch repair for an eight-inch sanitary sewer line where a crack in the pipe is allowing groundwater to flow into it. Public Works Director Mark Levra indicated the crack occurred in the line between manholes 75 and 77. It was discovered during annual cleaning.
Trustees did not seem to debate for long whether or not the repair should be made, before agreeing the $2500 for the patch would be money well spent.
The Trustees also agreed to an annual lease agreement with Steve and Margaret Dieter for the property at 307 University Street used for the local ice rink every year. Next, there was a short discussion regarding changing the yield sign from Juniper Avenue and University Street to a stop sign. An unidentified Trustee said the location and angle of the intersection, makes visibility such that you would not want a driver simply coasting through the intersection without stopping to look both ways. There was also mention of the Juniper Avenue crosswalk location at the intersection, especially in reference to sight lines at the location. The concern seemed to be the fact that the Juniper crosswalk is slightly south of University, which makes it harder for drivers going east on University to see if there is anyone in the Juniper crosswalk.
The following piece of business before the Board, was approval of the yearly agreement with Dunn County to collect real estate and personal property taxes; this received full Board approval.
The business item for approval of operator licenses for Tara Cole and Nicole Gardner of the Pourhouse was postponed until the next meeting on Oct.18, so Chief Weinberger would be able to review the findings of background checks. Cole was approved for a provisional operator license pending review of her background.
Another item, regarding changing rental fees for the village park, was tabled until a later meeting.
The Elk Mound Board of Trustees will meet again October 18 at 6 p.m.
