WEBSTER — Boyceville’s volleyball slate was cut in half last week.
After playing in a triangular meet at Webster last Tuesday evening, the Bulldogs had been scheduled for a road match-up in Amery two days later.
But, COVID-related concerns forced the postponement of the latter contest until October 4.
As it turned out Boyceville had to settle for a pair of September 7th matches against the host Tigers of Webster and the Beavers of Cumberland.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were unable to come up with their second victory of the young season as they lost both contests in two sets to fall to 1-7.
Jenna Behrends’ team will be home this Thursday to host Durand in the Dunn-St. Croix opener and will go to Spring Valley next Tuesday, September 21.
Webster
Boyceville fell behind early in both sets against Webster eventually losing 13-25 and 15-25 to the Tigers.
Libby Bygd had five of Boyceville’s seven kills while Torrie Bland collected eight of the team’s nine assists. Bland also had two of the squad’s three ace serves. Ella Holden had seven of the Bulldog’s 20 digs with Lacota Brown and Jacey Guy tallying three each while Bland, Harper Olson, and Cambrie Reisimer each had a pair.
Cumberland
In their second and final match of the triangular, the Bulldogs once again fell behind early in both sets losing 13-25 and 14-25 to Cumberland.
As a team, Boyceville converted just seven kills – four of which belonged to Bygd – on 40 attempts and had 12 errors. Bland had four of the five Bulldog assists.
Boyceville’s service game produced just two aces both of which were registered by Hailey Hanestad.
Defensively, Boyceville had 18 digs, five by Jacey Guy, four from Ella Holden, three courtesy of Harper Olson and two each by Lacota Brown, Torrie Bland and Libby Bygd, and just a single block save by Bygd.
The locals also had eight errors on their service receptions.
