COLFAX — Freshman Caden Wold won the boys’ long jump at the WIAA Division 3 regional track and field meet held in Colfax June 14.
Wold sailed 20 feet and a quarter inch to best runner-up Joey Biesterveld of Durand by a mere two inches and stick Boyceville’s only victory in last Monday’s meet.
Wold also took eighth in the 100 meter run after finishing in a time of :12.12.
The top four place winners in each event at the regional competition moved on to the sectional meet which was held at Cameron High School last Thursday, June 17.
The Bulldogs also qualified for the sectional competition in five other events.
Sophmore Haylee Rassmussen earned two of those qualifying spots with a second place in the triple jump (30’ 10”) and a fourth in the high jump (4’ 6”).
The girls’ 4×400 meter relay team of freshman Jaden Stevens, sophomores Emma Gruenhagen and Rasmussen, and junior Shiloh Wheeldon ran a 4:35.83 to finish in second place.
Shiloh Wheeldon also earned an fourth place in the 100 meter high hurdles after a run of :19.52.
Her younger brother, freshman Peter Wheeldon, scored the final sectional berth with a fourth place in the high jump (5’ 7”). He just missed moving on in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles after finishing fifth with a time of :44.67.
Boyceville’s other points were collected on a trio of sixth-place finishes – Shiloh Wheeldon in the 300 meter low hurdles (1:00.82), Abbygail Schlough in the triple jump (29; 11”), and Jaden Stevens in the 800 meter run (2:43.15).
As a team, the Boyceville boys finished ninth in the 11-school meet with 20 points while the ladies came in tenth with 35 points. Glenwood City won the girls competition with 129.5 points while Chetek-Weyerhaeuser claimed the boys’ team title with 126 points.
