Mounder boys first, girls second at D-SC quad in Boyceville; Colfax teams finish 3rd and 4th

BOYCEVILLE — The Elk Mound boys’ track and field team earned six first and six second-place finishes along with nine bronze-medal performances to win the most recent Dunn-St. Croix quadrangular held in Boyceville Thursday, May 13.
The Mounder boys compiled 108 points to outdistance runner-up Glenwood City, who tallied 82 points.
Meanwhile, the Lady Mounders’ squad took second behind Glenwood City who outscored them 87 to 75 for the team title.
Colfax’s boys got victories from senior Max Knutson in the 100 meters and sophomores Jadent Buchholz and Nick Jensen in the 3,200 meters and discus, respectively, to finish third in the four-team meet with 61. Boyceville finished last in the boys’ team standing with just 13 points.
Colfax’s girls finished last despite a trio of wins by sophomore Molly Heidorn, being edged out by the host Bulldogs by a mere three points – 42 to 39.
Colfax will host a conference quad this Thursday that will include Boyceville, Glenwood City, and Elmwood/Plum City. Meanwhile Elk Mound will be in Durand that same day for another conference quad that includes the host Panthers, along with Mondovi, and Spring Valley.
Elk Mound
The Elk Mound boys secured the top three finished in the 100 and 800 meters races and the 110 meter high hurdle event last Thursday in Boyceville to help them win first in the four-team D-SC meet.
Seniors Spencer Wolf, Logan Schultz, and Ethan Levra took first, second and third in the 100 meter dash, respectively. Wolf had a winning time of :12.29 followed by Schultz at :12.44 and Levra with a :12.63.

In the 800, junior Cason Pederson took the victory in the two-lap race with a time of 2:19.53. Trae Schaefer was second in 2:30.05 and freshman Tyler Ganger came in third with a 2:31.25. Schaefer also took fifth in the 400 meters.
Seniors also led the Mounders to a top-three sweep in the 110 meter high hurdles. Seniors Alex Johnson and Jack Gabert went one-two in the race with respective times of :18.82 and :21.61. Sophomore Tobey Westscott grabbed third in :23.35. Gabert also place second in the 300m hurdles while Wescott finished fourth in both the 300m hurdles and the pole vault. Johnson also placed in the triple jump with a fourth.
Junior Braedon Pederson won the long jump with a leap of 18’ 6” while the final two Mounder golds went to the 4x100m (Logan Schultz, AJ Miller, Braedon Pederson, and Spencer Wolf) and 4x200m (Logan Schultz, Antoni Meyer, Ethan Levra, and Braedon Pederson) relay teams.
Ian Hazen took second in the 1,600m run and the 4x400m relay team was also a runner-up.
Other finishes for the Mounder boys included thirds by Jackson Gehweiler (300m hurdles), Aiden Schiferl (1,600m), Gavin Sundeen (shot put) and the 4x800m relay, a fourth (high jump) and fifth (triple jump) for Will King and a fifth by Shawn Pinder in the 300 meter hurdles.
Freshman sprinter Lydia Levra and junior jumper Olivia Schreiber won the only two golds for the Mounder gals. Levra ran a :28.72 to claim first in the 200 meters while Schreiber went 29’ 1.25” to win the triple jump. Schreiber also finished second in the long jump (13’ 4”).
Other second-place finishers were Kennedy Pritchard in the 100 meters, Madison Lehman in the 400 meters, Marley King in the 800 meters, Kate Mohr in the 300 hurdles and high jump, and the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×800 meter relays teams.
Securing thirds were: Caroline Gabert in the 200 meters, Jillian Schlewitz in the 400 meters, Marley King in the 1,600 meters, Kate Mohr in the 300 hurdles and Grace Roder in the shot put.

Seniors Max Knutson and Noah Heidorn, along with junior Nathan Hydukovich, and sophomore Nick Jensen scored points in a pair of events on their home track last Thursday to help the Vikings’ boys to a third-place finish.
Knutson won the 200 meter sprint in :24.42 and took second with a distance of 36’ 11.75” in the triple jump, just an inch shorter than winning jump of Glenwood City’s Will Eggert.
Jensen threw the shot put 37’ 1.25” to win the event by over a foot and then finished third in the discus after a throw of 105’ 11”.
Noah Heidorn took home a pair of bronzes in the 400 meters (:59.19) and high jump (5 4”).
Nathan Hydukovich took second in the 400 meters (:53.86) and went 18’ 1” in the long jump for third.
Sophomore Jadent Buchholz won Colfax’s third and final gold in the 3,200 meters after running the event in 11:45.77 with classmate and teammate Ashton Yarrington placing second in 12:05.24.
Sophomore Alex Swanson placed second in the discus with a best of 108’ 4” and the 4×800 relay team also came in second.
Molly Heidorn was the meet’s only triple winner but it still wasn’t enough to keep the Lady Vikes out of the cellar.
Heidorn won the 800 (2:34.83), the 1,600 (5:32.71) and the 3,200 (12:34.07) meter races to earn 18 of her team’s 39 points.
Freshman Jeanette Hydukovich accounted for ten more points after placing first in the discus (98’ 8”) and second in the shot put (29’ 3”).
Jasmine Best finished second behind Heidorn in the 3,200 and Tyler Noll was third in the discus.
