It took a little more than a month for the Lady Bulldogs to come up with their third win of the season in a week that also contained two losses.
The Lady Dawgs hosted the Mondovi Buffaloes on Tuesday, January 26th, where they lost 39-54. On Thursday, the Boyceville girls picked up their first victory since December 22 when they defeated Elmwood/Plum City, 47-36. The following evening, Friday, January 29th, the Bulldogs suffered a lopsided, 17-62, road loss to the Durand Panthers.
With injuries and illness the Lady Bulldogs are doing their best with a limited number of available players.
The girls will finish out the regular season this week. Their home game against Elk Mound on Monday, February 1st was cancelled due to COVID-19 issues with the Mounders. Boyceville was in Mondovi Tuesday night, February 2nd, and return home to host Spring Valley in the regular-season finale this Thursday, February 4th.
Boyceville, currently 1-10 in conference play and 3-12 overall, will open the WIAA Division 4 playoffs in Grantsburg next Tuesday, February 9. The #5 Bulldogs will play the #4 Pirates with the winner advancing to Clear Lake to play the regional’s top-seeded Warriors in a semifinal contest on Friday, February 12. The finals will be held on Saturday, February 13.
Mondovi
In Monday’s game against the Buffaloes, head coach Jay Lagerstrom thought that they played a good game defensively as a team. He also thought that they shot the ball well when they did get shots but unfortunately they had too many empty possessions.
By the end of the first half, the Buffaloes had a 22-14 lead.
In the second half, the Buffaloes outscored the Dawgs 32-25 to take the 54-39 win. All in all it wasn’t a bad showing for the Lady Dawgs as they were down two more players and they try to figure out lineups.
“It was a competitive game and I thought we played better than we have for a while,” commented Lagerstrom.

Lagerstrom complimented the play of Mya Lagerstrom stating, “Mya handled the ball and shot well and probably had one of her better games” He also noted that Kady Grambow and Faith Harnisch rebounded well.
Mya Lagerstrom led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points followed by Grambow with ten.

Elmwood/Plum City
“Nice win for the girls,” remarked Lagerstrom after the game.
He stated that his charges played very good team defense again and offensively they got good shots. As a result, the Bulldogs took a 24-15 lead at halftime. In the second half they outscored Elmwood/Plum City by just two points but it was enough to win 47-36.
Lagerstrom had some nice things to say about his players, “Kady Grambow had a nice night with 21 points and nine rebounds, Freshman Hannah Dunn played with confidence again and Mya handled the ball well against them when they tried to pressure us. Kersten and Harnisch did a great job defensively and taking care of the ball on offense. Reismer and Hanestad have been giving us quality minutes that don’t show up in the boxscore.”
Lagerstrom concluded, “Just happy for the girls, it’s been a grind through all the adversity.”

Durand
It was a hard night on Friday the 29th when the Lady Dawgs traveled to Durand.
Lagerstrom commented, “We struggled badly out of the gate, I think part of it was coming off an exciting win the night before and we just were very flat. We couldn’t hit the ocean with a beach ball and they (Durand) shot great, they kept bringing rested girls at us and we just could never come close to recovering from the terribly slow start.”
As a result Boyceville lost the game to the second-place Panthers 62-17 after scoring just six points in the first half. The Bulldogs trailed by 26 at intermission.
The second half was slightly better for Boyceville but they were still outscored 30 to 11.
Lagerstrom said that Durand is an excellent and deep squad and showed our younger girls how tough is it to stop a team with that many good shooters.
The Lady Bulldogs will try to regroup and hopefully have a couple of their injured players back to finish out the season.
