COLFAX — Members of the Colfax FFA and Colfax FFA Alumni have purchased 250 six-packs of Swiss Miss pudding for distribution with school lunches and for the public.
“We are donating this as a way to give back to the community,” said Steve Ackerlund, president of the Colfax FFA Alumni.
Of the 250 six-packs, 120 of them will be donated to the Colfax school district to be distributed with the meals that are delivered to children who are doing their school work at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
Governor Tony Evers closed schools in the state on March 18 for several weeks to help slow the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus for which human beings have no immunity. The governor subsequently extended the school closures for the rest of the year.
Bus drivers in the Colfax school district are delivering meals — and when needed, work packets — to the children at their homes.
The remaining 130 six-packs of Swiss Miss pudding will be available to the public at Kyle’s Market in Colfax, Ackerlund said.
The pudding is expected to arrive at Kyle’s Market on Tuesday afternoon, April 21, and will be available until it is gone, he said.
“Anyone who wants pudding should go and pick one up,” Ackerlund said, noting that there is a limit of one six-pack of pudding per family.
Swiss Miss is a brand name of instant hot cocoa and pudding invented by Charles Sanna. Swiss Miss was originally produced by Sanna Dairies in Menomonie. The company was sold to Beatrice Foods in 1967 and was purchased by Conagra in 1990.
