CHS seniors receive support through yard signs

COLFAX — While driving through Colfax, it is hard not to see the signs that are placed in the yards supporting the Class of 2020.
In early April, Sherri Bennett Scholfield reached out to the families of the high school seniors and asked if they would want to purchase the signs for the graduating class.
“Being a parent of a senior I was heartbroken that she would be missing a bunch of her lasts since the quarantine,” said Scholfield. “Last prom, last play, last trip to state, and honestly they were my lasts as well being a parent.”
Scholfield knew there was nothing she could do, but felt that maybe the signs would honor the seniors in some way.
Scholfield reached out first to the moms of the seniors through a Facebook group and had no doubt that other parents felt the same way she did.
Without question, the families began to reach out to other parents in the school community about the purchase of the signs.
On April 3, Scholfield had created a GoFundMe link as a way to pay for the signs, and still adhere to social distancing.
Shortly after the link went up, an anonymous donor reached out to the school board and offered to purchase the signs.
The signs were then approved, with the help of Signarama in Eau Claire, and parents were able to pick the signs up on April 14 outside of the school.
“I really hope that some of these activities will just be postponed, and happen later this summer,” said Scholfield. “These students work hard and deserve to be celebrated.”
The seniors met Wednesday, April 22, with high school principal John Dachel to discuss graduation and other events that were planned prior to the shut down.
