ELK MOUND — Four candidates are running for three positions on the Elk Mound Board of Education in the April 7 election.
The candidates are Mark Cedarblade, Michael Jenson Jr., Patrick Rhude and Tim Sivertson.
The Colfax Messenger sent out questionnaires to the candidates.
Here are Tim Sivertson’s answers to the questionnaire.
• What is your occupation?
It has been such an honor and privilege to serve on the Elk Mound school board. I was first elected in 1993 and have been board president since 1998. My work history consists of farming and being a registered nurse.
• Tell us about your family.
My wife, Tamra, and I reside in the Spring Brook township. I attended and graduated from the Elk Mound schools as did my children.
• Why did you decide to run for the Elk Mound Board of Education?
I am running for school board for continuing student achievement success, providing quality staff and administration, and infusing community values to the district.
• What makes you suited to serve on the school board?
My experience of serving on the board, whole board and personal professional development, involvement on the State and National Boards for Public Education and legislative advocacy for public educational needs and equitable funding are some of the many experiences I have been involved in to bring back to Elk Mound to continue improving the EMHS District.
• Besides the budget, what do you believe to be the biggest challenges or issues facing the Elk Mound school district?
Our challenges include issues communicating, listening, and planning for our immediate needs while having our sights on future needs. As a board we set policy, assist in planning the budget, evaluate the superintendent and ensure due process for those that need to have issues addressed.
• How would you suggest addressing those challenges or issues for the Elk Mound school district?
Our most immediate challenge is providing for tshe future of the district whether it is in buildings, maintenance, safety and security for our students and staff or education standards. As our district continues to grow and our facilities need attention we continually assess and implement solutions which the referendum that is in place for the April 7 vote will provide.
• Why are you the best candidate?
I would appreciate your vote to ensure our board continues to move the district forward with experience, as we currently have in board members, and looking to provide a quality education to each and every student along with a positive culture and climate for all of our EMHS staff and students.
