AMANDA NELSON

LISA YANG
Glenwood City High/Middle School is proud to announce the December Students of the Month. Compassion was the character trait that was the focus of the month. Students who are mindful of the misfortunes of others and who act to help others overcome struggles were our focal point. The staff at Glenwood City High/Middle School has identified the following students who demonstrate these traits in their day-to-day interactions.
The December Student of the Month at Glenwood City High School is freshman, Amanda Nelson. In nominating Amanda, Ms. Nied states, “Amanda is a very kind and caring student. In the classroom, she works well with others, helps others, and accepts others. She is always willing to assist me if I need help with something and frequently asks me how I am doing. She is often the first to help a struggling friend, and also is very supportive of her classmates athletically in her role as basketball team manager. I believe Amanda is an excellent example of compassion.”
Amanda is the daughter of Tania Nelson and Dan Nelson.
The December Student of the Month at Glenwood City Middle School is eighth grader, Lisa Yang. Lisa was recognized by Mr. Schutz, who states, “As we all know, Lisa has had a difficult last couple of months with the passing of her father and the added responsibility her family has taken on. But at school here, it seems as nothing has changed in Lisa’s life. She has every right to say, ‘the hell with this’ or at least show some frustration, but she doesn’t. She continues to be the responsible caring individual she has always been. She continues to care for those around her by working with individuals that are great for her and those that could easily frustrate her too. She continues to lend a helping hand when she can, no matter the person. I’m sure she is hurting inside, but those around her only see the soft-spoken, hardworking, caring person she is.”
Lisa is the daughter of Kay Lee.
Students of the Month are rewarded by having a lunch provided for them and a friend, as well as being issued a unique piece of Hilltopper apparel. In addition, students are provided with preferential parking (for them or a family member).
Congratulations to Amanda and Lisa!
We would also like to recognize the following students who were nominated in conjunction with their ability to be compassion – Mackenzie Nelson by Mr. Strong; Makayla Sina by Mr. Popko; Bethany Ullom by Mr. Gretzlock; Henry Wallin by Mr. Wannemacher; Stephanie Anderson by Mr. VanderWaal; Miley Blaser by Ms. Hierlmeier and Ms. Minor.
