Colfax cross country teams compete at Roy Griak Invite

MINNEAPOLIS — The Colfax boys’ and girls’ cross country squads traveled to Minneapolis on Saturday, September 28 to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on the Les Boldstad Cross Country Course.
“It’s always a great experience,” said head coach Joe Doucette. “Teams from all over the country and a huge field of over 60 teams in our division.”
Neither the men or women placed in the top 50 teams. Notre Dame Academy and Nova Classical Academy took top honors for in boys’ competition while Shorewood and St. Louis Park finished in first and second for the ladies.
Noah Heidorn crossed the finish line first for the Colfax boys to place 265th and Molly Heidorn finished in 45th place as she finished first for the local ladies. Noah and Molly finished with times of 19:39.4 and 21:01.1.
“The boys were 59th out of 62 teams and we were excited to see them battle on a tough course,” said Doucette. “Same for the girls, Molly was solid again with a personal record on a tough course. She has a great future and was about 30 seconds from medaling in the top 20.”
Dennis Sonnentag and Jadent Buchholz were next to finish for the boys as they came in at 19:55.4 and 21:00.9 for 308th and 377th place.
Finishing in 391st place for the Viking men was Ashton Yarrington with a time of 21:26.5, Yarrington was followed 30 seconds later by Luke Blanchard in 404th place and a time of 21:52.2.
Jasmine Best returned for the Griak invitational and crossed the finish line in 256th place with a time of 23:37.9.
Knocking two minutes off her time from last week was sophomore Emilee Burcham-Scofield as she finished with a time of 25:09.4 for 342nd place.
Juelia Berger and Jenna Goodell hit the finish line next for the Lady Vikes in 357th and 385th place with times of 25:26.7 and 26:42.6.
Also competing for the ladies was Jillian Bowe and Jaclyn Olson as they finished with times of 27:15.3 and 31:29.7 for 394th and 406th place.
“Our goal is to keep improving as we are working hard,” Doucette explained.
The Vikings will travel to Spring Valley on Thursday, October 3, before taking nine days off and returning to the course in Eau Claire on Saturday, October 12.
