Colfax
“We really thought if we ran well the girls could take second in the small school division and we were third,” said Colfax head coach Joe Doucette. “We ran okay, some ran very well but others struggled in the warm weather.”
Freshman Molly Heidorn has been a stand out star for the Vikings in her first year, finishing second in the small school division and sixth overall with a time of 21:16.6.
Jasmine Best and Aynsley Olson were next to cross the finish line for Colfax in the 13th and 14th positions with times of 23:14.3 and 23:51.5.
“It was our first time at full strength and we feel we can be pretty good in a few weeks if we can develop in the 4-7 spots,” said Doucette. “We had a great week of practice and we knew we were going to be better, but the weather has got the best of us.”
Rounding out the Lady Vikes scorers was Juelia Berger and Jenna Goodell, Berger finished in 45th place with a time of 26:50.1 and Goodell crossed in 47th place with a time of 26:50.7.
Emilee Burcham-Scofield also competed for Colfax and finished in 74th place with a time of 28:28.3.
“Right now, our biggest highlight is Molly Heidorn,” Doucette said. “She has the ability to have a great future and has faced three medal winners from last year’s state meet and has been close to all three. We really like this team and they are good kids who work hard.”
In the first race as a full team, the Colfax boys finished in eleventh with Elk Mound and Unity earning the top two spots in the small school division.
Veteran Noah Heidorn was the first of five runners for the Vikings to cross the finish line in 24th place and a time of 19:41.2, Heidorn was followed by Jadent Buchholz in 42nd position and a time of 21:16.4.
“Noah and Dennis are our leaders but we now have some talented young guys for them to lead,” Doucette said. “We think that Jadent, Ashton, Luke and Brison all have great futures ahead of them, we are excited to see how they develop.”
Ashton Yarrington, Luke Blanchard and Brison Tuschl all had strong finishes in 52nd, 58th and 75th place for the Vikings.
“The boys had a team score for the first time and we were missing veteran Dennis Sonnentag,” explained coach Doucette. “It was great to have a team score, we have had a great boys program over the years and we really want to keep that great tradition going.”
