He’s making good on his promises!

President-elect Donald Trump is putting together a good number of people that will become government officials when confirmed by the senate and those people will lead this country in making his election promises come to reality.

One of the items that Trump addressed during the campaign is to do away with the Department of Education (DOE) and turning it over to the states. He said that the states could do a better job of educating our children than the federal government is doing.

A report that I heard on a news program is that ninety percent of the rules over public education come from the federal government, but only ten percent of the funding comes from the federal government. I am a firm believer that one program does not fit the needs of all states and time will tell if doing away with the DOE will improve the education of our young ones.

Monday morning I looked at a recent poll that indicated public approval of several of Trump’s plans including: 59 percent approval of Trump’s transition process, 57 percent approval of mass deportation, and 52 percent of the respondents approved of tariffs.

I know that Thanksgiving was last week, but I would like to print part of George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation from 1789.

“Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor—and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

“Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all that good that was, that is, or that will be — That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks — for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation.”

The framers and fathers of our country relied heavily on their belief in God when they formed a new nation back in 1789 and I now wonder if our leaders and ourselvs have that belief that will allow us to carry our great nation forward. I question our faith, by the number of vacant pews in our churches on Sunday morning.
