The country is not healed!

It looks like to me that following the presidential election of November fifth that the voters have spoken and that all would accept the results. I should have known better.

Donald Trump won the election, collecting some three and a half million more votes than Kamala Harris did. Trump received 312 Electoral College votes to Harris’ 226.

I listened to Harris’s concession speech on Wednesday and she acknowledged, “A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results.” She continued, “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.”

Fighting was also on the minds of several blue state governors who have put on the boxing gloves and it seems that they are challenging President-elect Trump to a fight over several policies that he campaigned on including immigration.

I must commend President Biden for his remarks about the election. In his speech in the Rose Garden he stated: “I know for some people, it’s a time for victory, to state the obvious. For others, it’s a time of loss. Campaigns are contests of competing visions. The country chooses one or the other. We accept the choice the country made. I’ve said many times, you can’t love your country only when you win.”

Biden commented on a phone call that he made to Trump congratulating him on the election victory and Biden said, “I assured him that I directed my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve.”

This is in contrast to four years ago when Trump made allegations of voter fraud and Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6th.

Time will tell if Trump is able to fulfill all of the things that he talked about during the campaign. At this time the Republicans have gained control of the Senate and lead in controlling the House of Representatives and if that happens Trump will be able to get his bills through Congress and he may have a great chance to accomplish his goals.

While watching the results of the election Tuesday night, all indications where that a very large number of people went to the polls for the November election. However, checking the numbers I found that almost ten million more ballots were cast in the 2020 election compared to the 2024 election.

Here in Wisconsin, almost 125,000 more ballots were cast in 2024 than in 2020. So there you go.
