John Kerry against the First Amendment!

The other night while I was watching television news, a piece was aired showing a speech given by John Kerry. He said that the “First Amendment is a major block to stopping disinformation and fighting climate change.”

I was aghast by what I heard, an attack on the document that gives the population of this county all its freedoms. Our rights are guaranteed by this document. There are five basic rights given to us under the first Amendment. They are the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly and petition.

We have lived under these freedoms since July 15, 1791.

Just in case you don’t remember whom John Kerry was. He served as secretary of state in the Obama administration, ran for president in 2004 against George W. Bush, losing, but he remains the most recent Democrat to have lost the popular vote in a presidential election.

What Kerry is quoted as saying is: “If people go to only one source, and the source they go to is sick, and you know, has an agenda, and they’re putting out disinformation, our first amendment stands as a major block to the ability to be able to just, you know, hammer it out of existence.”

A piece in the Washington Examiner written by Brady Leonard, tells us, “The disinformation Kerry seeks to hammer out of existence is the truth.”

Leonard continued, “When a political movement’s only guiding principle is an insatiable lust for power, the free exchange of ideas becomes public enemy No. 1. It should come as no surprise that the party … has largely replaced faith with the perverse worship of the state feels that the ends always justify the means.”

After failing to squash the second amendment, the Democrats in this country have turned their attention to the First Amendment. They have watched as millions of Americans purchased some sort of firearm and now have a rifle to defend their families without getting permission from the government.

Leonard further stated, “The public has grown accustomed to censorship by the state. Democrats successfully used a coordinated, unconstitutional censorship campaign to win the 2020 presidential election, and they view the continued perversion of the First Amendment, or its outright elimination, as the path forward toward achieving their communistic goals.”

The First Amendment reads as follows: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

In the entry way of the Tribune Press Reporter’s office in Glenwood City hangs a two by three foot poster of the First Amendment that was produced at the Minnesota Newspaper Museum during the last Minnesota State Fair from a form using old wood type and printed on an 100 year old printing press. Stop by and take a look.

Thanks for reading!     ~Carlton
