Garry Hoag

Garry Grant Hoag, age 87, of Boyceville, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie, surrounded by family.

Garry was born September 22, 1936, in Finland, MN to Willard and Mabel (Hendrikson) Hoage. At the age of four he moved to Boyceville where the family dairy farm was established. He attended Boyceville High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea as a heavy equipment operator from October 1955-1957. After his military service, Garry was employed with the Dunn County Highway Department while still working on the family farm. He then continued his education at Dunn County Agriculture School in Menomonie. Garry was a member of VFW Lee-Ranney Post 235 Wheeler, WI, served as a board member for WESTconsin Credit Union and Cenex Cooperative for a number of years, was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church council, and served as caretaker for Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery for 20 years.

Garry married Sally Kostman November 1, 1958 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wheeler. They were blessed with five children. In 1978 Garry and Sally purchased the family farm where they remained raising their family until his retirement in 2007. They then sold the farm and moved to the Village of Boyceville. Garry enjoyed riding up and down the streets of Boyceville on his 4-wheeler, you could find him shaking dice in Wheeler or playing cards at a local church in Boyceville. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events and liked the sounds and lights of any casino. He would also take multiple trips to Menomonie daily. Garry and Sally enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. In Garry’s earlier years, he and Sally would shake a leg at weekend dances, you could find them on the golf course, and at the bowling alley weekly on their bowling league; Garry could really throw that ball. Weekend card parties with great friends also happened. He was a lifelong member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Garry is survived by his wife Sally of Boyceville; daughters Brenda (Kenneth) Halvorson, Bonnie (Jeff) Hoff, Beverly (Brian) Biggart, and Becky (Tim) Fasbender, all from Boyceville. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, sisters Vivian Barton and Sharon Smith (Steve Friede) from Menomonie, and sister-in-law, Jackie Hoage of Colfax.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Willard and Mabel Hoage, mother-in-law and father-in-law Harley & Leona Kostman, brother Robert Hoage, brother-in-law Cyril Barton, son Barry Hoag, granddaughters Tabitha Harnisch and Kiandra Schaffer.

The family would like to thank Mayo Menomonie Emergency Room and Med Surg staff for the outstanding care given to Garry. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is handling arrangements.
