After dropping both matches in straight sets at the Webster triangular last Tuesday, September 10, the Boyceville volleyball team returned to the friendly confines of the Dog House two days later and knocked off Amery in four sets.
Boyceville, now 4-6 following last week’s 1-2 finish, heads into a busy week that includes its conference opener. The Bulldogs hosted Pepin/Alma Tuesday in a non-conference match and welcome Elk Mound Thursday to tip off Dunn-St. Croix competition. Boyceville then travels to Owen-Withee High for a quad meet this Saturday, September 21 and will be in Elmwood next Tuesday, September 24 to face the Wolves of Elmwood-Plum City.
Webster Triangular
Boyceville lost both of its matches at the Webster Triangular as it fell in straight sets to the host Tigers and the Beavers of Cumberland.
Webster controlled both sets versus Boyceville as it took convincing wins of 25-16 and 25-12. Against the Tigers, Zoey Hellendrung registered six of the team’s 13 kills with Aubrey Malean adding three and had eight digs, Delaney Olson had half of the Bulldogs’ 12 assists and Mercedes Barstad topped the team with 11 digs.
In its opening set against Cumberland, play went back-and-forth with the Beavers eventually pulling out a close 25-22 win. Unfortunately, that loss seemed to demoralize the Bulldogs as they dropped the second set and match 7-25. In the Cumberland match, Zoey Hellendrung picked up half of the Bulldogs 12 kills. Delaney Olson led the team with seven assists and a pair of aces serves. Mercedes Barstad topped the defensive charts with 17 of the squad’s 36 digs and Lucy Wheeldon tallied four blocks which included two solo efforts.
Amery
What a difference a few days and home-court advantage can make.

The Boyceville trio of Zoey Hellendrung, Aubrey Malean and Delaney Olson were responsible for 28 of the team’s 36 kills in the Amery match. Hellendrung finished with ten while Malean and Olson both registered nine. Olson added 18 assists, three service aces and 16 digs. Malean also had three aces to go along with 17 digs while Hellendrung chipped in with ten. Mercedes Barstad collected a team-leading 27 of the Bulldogs’ 77 digs.
