Paul Virgil Score of Boyceville, WI, aged 94, departed from this life on Thursday, August 22, 2024. He was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on July 31, 1930, to Emil and Hettie (Baker) Score.
Paul attended Washburn Farm Grade School, a one-room schoolhouse through the 8th grade. He graduated in 1948 from Prairie Farm High School, participating in both football and boxing. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and was honorably discharged with the Medal for Valor in 1953 after serving as a fireman in the Korean War as an Airman 3rd Class. On July 27, 1957, Paul wed Marilyn Ann Randall in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. Together they farmed and milked dairy cows until 1996, at which point they briefly raised beef cattle.
Paul had been a lifetime member of Hay River Lutheran Church, a member of the Prairie Farm American Legion, a 4-H leader, a sportsman participating in hunting, fishing, dart ball, horseshoe, ping pong, pool, and board games. Paul traveled extensively with his wife to 28 countries and six continents. He enjoyed to read, play cards, dominoes, wordle, sudoku, putting puzzles together, cherished spending time with his family and friends and was known for his sense of humor.
Paul’s is survived by three children, Ronald (Janice) Score of Boyceville, Lynn (John) Raty of Billings, Montana, and Dean (Dawn) Score of Austin, Texas, seventeen grandchildren and step-grandchildren, a great-grandchild, five Brazilian exchange students he hosted; Sisters: Yvonne Kjos and Patricia (Jim) Fleischhacker; sisters-in-laws, Bea Score and Gerda Score; brother-in-law: Dale Cofield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Hettie Score, his wife Marilyn, brothers Orville and Severt Score; sisters Nancy Cofield, Marjorie Mrdutt, Elaine Seivert, Ann Bergeon, Edith Bloch, and brothers-in-laws Edwin Kjos, Andrew Mrdutt and Charles Seivert.
On Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a celebration of life at Hay River Lutheran Church, N1250 WI-25, Wheeler, WI. There will be visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Together in death as in life, interment with Military Honors for Paul and Marilyn will take place at the church cemetery. Lunch will be served. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family.
