COLFAX — Meat animals raised for 4-H and FFA projects sold at the Colfax FFA Alumni Auction at the Colfax Free Fair on Saturday evening, June 15, for a little over $48,000.
The 2024 meat animal auction brought in about $30,000 more in sales than the auction five years ago in 2019, which raised $19,000.
All together, 24 animals were sold this year, including 14 pigs, five beef steers, and five market sheep.
At the 2023 Colfax FFA Alumni Auction, there were 22 animals sold, including 13 pigs, seven beef steers and two sheep, which resulted in a little over $40,000 in sales.
At the 2022 Colfax FFA Alumni Auction, the sale of 18 meat animals brought nearly $27,000 and included 11 pigs, six beef cattle and one sheep.
Sale prices for market swine at the 2024 auction ranged from $3.25 per pound to $6.75 per pound.
The price of beef cattle ranged from $3.25 per pound to $4.50 per pound.
The price of market sheep ranged from $6.50 per pound to $8.75 per pound.
The sale total for meat animals in 2021 was $21,750, or about $6,000 less than 2022 and a little more than half the sale total of 2023.
In 2020, the Colfax Free Fair was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, 21 animals sold for $19,000.
In 2016, 38 animals sold for a little more than $25,000.
The 2024 auction also included a number of donated items that brought in money for the Colfax FFA Alumni, including four pig feeders and a hay feeder donated by Synergy Cooperative, an assortment of flowering hanging baskets, chocolate chip cookies and pizza from A Little Slice of Italy, and several gift baskets donated by other businesses.

Here are the results of the 2024 auction:
• Gabriella Wantoch, daughter of Katie and Jonathan Wantoch, is a member of the Colfax Comets 4-H Club. Gabriella sold her market swine to Colfax Animal Hospital for $6.50 per pound.
• Maxwell Martinson, son of Staci and Brent Martinson, is a member of Sand Creek Pipers 4-H Club. Maxwell sold his market swine to Security Bank for $6 per pound.
• Mazie Beyrer, daughter of Stephanie and Tryston Beyrer, is a member of the 22er’s 4-H Club. Mazie sold her market sheep to the Colfax Animal Hospital for $7.50 per pound.
• Connor Albricht, son of Jody and Jeanie Albricht, is a member of the Colfax FFA. Connor sold his dairy-beef cross to Synergy Cooperative for $3.25 per pound.
• Brenna Berg, daughter of Adam Berg and Melissa Berg, is a member of the Colfax FFA. Brenna sold her market swine to Synergy Cooperative for $3.50 per pound.
• Blake Sikora, son of Tawna and Tim Sikora, is a member of the Howard-Wheaton 4-H Club. Blake sold his market swine to Greener Acres Agronomy for $3.25 per pound.
• Jakob Albricht, son of Justin and Nicole Albricht, is a member of the Colfax FFA. Jakob sold his dairy-beef cross to Semi Correct Services for $3.75 per pound.
• Jonah Harder, son of Joshua Harder, is a member of the 22er’s 4-H Club. Jonah sold his market swine to Woods Run Forest Products for $4 per pound.
• Ella Harder, daughter of Janelle and Jacob Harder, is a member of the 22er’s 4-H Club. Ella sold her market swine to Denmark Dairy for $4.75 per pound.
• Graham Schaffner, son of Mark and Tiffany Schaffner, is a member of 22er’s 4-H Club. Graham sold his market sheep to Buck’s Processing for $7.50 per pound.

• John Riebe, son of Dave and Jenny Riebe, is a member of the Colfax Comets 4-H Club. John sold his beef steer to Colfax Animal Hospital for $4.50 per pound,

• Kennedy Shane, daughter of Matt and DaLonna Shane, is a member of the Colfax FFA. Kennedy sold her market sheep to the Colfax FFA Alumni for $8.75 per pound.
• Gabrielle Sikora, daughter of Tawna and Tim Sikora, is a member of the Howard-Wheaton 4-H Club. Gabrielle sold her market swine to Bri’s Processing for $3.75 per pound.
• Hunter Roberts, son of Flint Roberts, is a member of the Colfax Comets 4-H Club. Hunter sold his market swine to Northern Show Circuit for $5 per pound.

• Chase Albricht, son of Nick Albricht and Katie Burrington, is a member of the Colfax FFA. Chase sold his market swine to Synergy Cooperative for $5.75 per pound.
• Tyler Albricht, son of Justin and Nicole Albricht, is a member of the Colfax FFA. Tyler sold his dairy-beef cross to Hoof and Paw Veterinary Clinic for $3.75 per pound.
• Abigail Sikora, daughter of Tawna and Tim Sikora, is a member of the Howard-Wheaton 4-H Club. Abigail sold her market swine to Hoof and Paw Veterinary Clinic for $4.75 per pound.
• Cheyennah Millermon, daughter of Kenneth and Terra Millermon, is a member of the Howard-Wheaton 4-H Club. Cheyennah sold her market sheep to Beyrer’s Farm for $6.50 per pound. Beyrer’s Farm donated the sheep back, and it was sold again to the Colfax Animal Hospital for $6.75 per pound.
