Marilyn Louise (Herrly) Schug

Marilyn Louise (Herrly) Schug

Marilyn Louise (Herrly) Schug, 78, of Glenwood City, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly on May 21st, 2024, at home. She was born on July 23rd, 1945, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of Glen Orville Herrly and Clarice Bertha (Orton) Herrly.

Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Lawrence Schug; her four children–Mary Ohman (Tim), Sherri Williams (Rob), Larry Schug, and Cindy Schug; her five grandchildren–Megan Ohman, Shannen Daniel (Damen), Victoria Williams, Elizabeth Williams, and Ryan Schug; her great-grandchildren Oden and Lillian Daniel; her sister Glenise Thomas (Larry); her sisters-in-law Mary Lundell and Lucy Moll; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Glen, and mother, Clarice.

Marilyn spent her early years in Minnesota, and in the 4th grade, her family moved to a farm near Emerald, Wisconsin where she helped with milking cows and fieldwork. She attended Glenwood City High School and graduated in 1963 near the top of her class. In high school, Marilyn participated in numerous clubs, and excelled in Forensics. She had many friends with whom she kept in contact, including her best friend, Judy (DeLong) Wink. After high school, she worked as an executive assistant at Mutual Service Insurance Company in St. Paul, Minnesota. She met Lawrence Schug in Emerald, Wisconsin, in 1964 at the Forest Inn. Marilyn was there with her mother, and she caught Lawrence’s eye. They started dating shortly after and it was a blessing from God that they met. They fell in love and married on May 28th, 1966 at St. John’s Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Bernard Niggemann, in Glenwood City. In their younger years, they enjoyed traveling. Marilyn and Lawrence raised their four children on the Schug family farm. After raising her children, Marilyn went back to the workforce and held positions at First National Bank in Glenwood City, Cenex in New Richmond, and Doboy/Bosch in New Richmond.

Marilyn had the kindest soul and lit up the room with her outgoing personality and radiant smile. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who was happiest spending time with her family. Marilyn was very creative and had a talent for scrapbooking. Her loved ones called her the “queen of scrapbooking,” and she created many albums filled with family memories. Marilyn was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church. In her younger years, she taught Catechism and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Mass. Marilyn was involved in her children’s 4-H club and was special to many of their friends who lovingly referred to her as their “second mother”.

Our hearts are broken, our family will never be the same. We will cherish all the wonderful memories and all the beautiful scrapbooks Marilyn made over the years. We will love her forever–wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Marilyn touched are invited to the visitation at Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City on Friday, May 31st, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1st at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Glenwood City with celebrant Father John Long.
