David M. Booth, age 74, of Downing, WI died Monday May 1, 2023 at home following a long battle with cancer.
David was born September 29, 1948 in Glenwood City, WI. to Harris and Pearl (Coleman) Booth.
He grew up 1 of 7 children on the family farm near Glenwood where he attended and later graduated from the Glenwood City High School in 1966. In September of 1967 he entered the U.S. Army and served overseas and state side until 1969.
Upon his return he married Betty Quinn in December of 1969 in Glenwood City, WI. To this union 2 daughters were born, Stephanie and Sheila.
David worked in several various jobs over the years, many for the Hill’s Meat Locker and serving as city engineer from 1977 until retiring in 2010. In 1988, Dave married Darlene Frieberg and they resided in Downing until purchasing the Boondocks, which they managed for 5 years and lived in the apartment in the building.
He dedicated many years to the American Legion post #168 in Glenwood City. Serving as commander and organizing the Sons of the American Legion and he was very instrumental in erecting the veterans’ wall on Oak St. in Glenwood City.
The legion was a very important part of his life, as he also attended countless meeting for St. Croix County representing the post and the 10th district. He marched in many parades, served in color guard for funerals, memorial day services and events at the school. He also collected sponsors and prizes for the county’s annual fundraiser golf outing. Dave was a long time member of the American Legion and with the VFW.
Through these organizations, he became a regular blood donor at the VA hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Donating over 10 gallons over the years.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sonny “Harris Jr.” and Steven, sister Annette and brother in law Wayne Klatt.
David is survived by his children: Stephanie (Todd) Johnson, Sheila (Nick) Swenby, and Colton Booth.
Grandchildren: Kayla (Derek) Borst, Nicole Johnson (Cody Keeley), TJ (Abby) Johnson, Owen Swenby and Esdyn Swenby. Great grandchildren Makinley and Brody. Brother Marvin (Jean) Booth; Sisters: Judi Klatt and Sandi Booth. Sister-in-law Louetta Booth. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday May12, 2023 at the Glenwood City Community Center.
