Who or what are you afraid of?
As I sat in my favorite chair for morning coffee Friday the conversation turned into a political topic, as it usually does. The bearded gentleman by the name of Harvey who sits at the head of the table brought up the question, “Who are you afraid of?”
“I am not afraid of China, I am not afraid of North Korea, I am not afraid of Russia.” And, he listed several other countries that he claimed not to be afraid of.
“But, I am afraid of Joe Biden.” It is unthinkable that we should fear our own country, a country that we are guaranteed rights as spelled out by the First Amendment to the Constitution. That 45 word statement that gives us the right to choose a religion, have free speech, freedom of the press, the right to assemble and the right to petition the government.
I could write about a handful of reasons that one fears Joe Biden. But, one of those items is the open southern border. David Potter, a contributing editor at Americans for Limited Government, writes the following piece.
“It’s no secret that President Biden has been dismantling the U.S. immigration system since he took office. Under his all-but-named open-border policies, an estimated 794,112 illegal immigrants have escaped into the United States. The crisis is accelerating as roughly 476,000 such crossings have been in the first six months of 2022.
“The successful crossing at the U.S. border will continue to skyrocket, as more immigrants attempt to enter, with agents encountering a record 239,416 migrants in May alone.
“What’s even more alarming is that Biden is removing Trump appointed immigration judges and immigration cases are being dismissed. Biden’s Justice Department has come under fire from a former immigration judge who was fired by the administration. Matthew O’Brien on Fox News accused the Biden administration of ‘packing’ immigration courts in order to allow more immigrants to stay in the United States. O’Brien claimed that the courts were not designed to do this and that the administration’s actions were undermining the rule of law.
“As the number of immigrants arriving at the southern border continues to surge, officials in several Texas counties are calling on Governor Greg Abbott to take measures to address the problems. They say that the situation was an invasion and called on Abbott to enforce federal immigration laws.”
Here is what I see at the southern border. Most of the immigrants are people and families that are looking to enjoy the “American Dream.” But, also coming across the border are people who are the bad guys and some of them have been kicked out of the United States because they were convicted of doing some evil, and now they are back coming across the open border.
On top of that, drugs are flowing into our country and that is the biggest problem.
We have all watched the gun violence that is plaguing the nation and gets widespread coverage from the big news outlets. The number of gun deaths falls behind deaths from the overdoes of drugs, and deaths from vehicle accidents.
I believe with all my heart that if we could get control of drug use in this country, we would see a big drop in gun deaths.
But, our young kids are exposed to violence every day that is displayed on the television or the things that they see on the Internet or other platforms, and does that affect some young mind into taking shots at people watching a parade?
