How can I talk about the naughty word without spelling it?
I would like to discuss “That Word,” that four letter-word that begins with an F. It has moved into our daily life really without much notice and it is also printed in the dictionary on my desk, which was printed back in 2002. I think that you will know what I am referring to when I use the term “That Word.”
If you watch movies, it is used many times along with the violence that many movies feature. That makes me wonder how much influence that has on our young people and could it be some of the cause of all the violence on our streets today?
In my early days, I only heard “That Word” in the locker room or out behind the barn. And as I did not have a barn at my house growing up, so “That Word” was not heard.
Now I am seeing “That Word” on political signs describing our President Joe Biden. I wrote last week about visiting Las Vegas and while I was on Fremont Street, I saw a young boy, I thought was less than ten years old, holding a big piece of cardboard with painted red letters that read “That Word” President Joe Biden. If you agreed with me tip me.” I probably could praise him for trying to make a buck, but I did not see anyone tipping him nor did I.
The actor Robert DeNiro dropped “That Word” Trump; back at the 2018 Tony Awards and since that time I have avoided any of his films. I know that my not watching any of his work must have hurt his pocket book!
Now, I don’t care how you feel about Biden’s leadership or lack of it. “That Word” does not belong associated with his name or any one else’s name. We have become a nation of name callers, no wonder we have trouble getting along.
Last Thursday afternoon, I was driving on 320th Street near the Glenwood City School as school was being let out and personal cars were picking up kids at the west entrance. A van pulled out of the school parking lot onto 320 in front of me and on the back window of that van was “That Word” Biden.
I am assuming that someone had picked up their youngsters after school to take them home. If my assumptions are founded, how could a person expose that type of saying to their kids? It’s beyond me.
I am sick of “That Word”, so lets talk about something that makes us feel better.
That same Thursday evening, I attended a spring music program for kindergarteners, first and second graders and the fifth grade band played. The youngsters were enthusiastic and I know that all parents and other family members appreciate very much the time and effort that the school staff puts in with these youngsters. It was well received.
I must also relate a couple positive notes for the Glenwood City community. Work has began on the new home for Ross’ Glenwood City Lockers as ground breaking took place last week for their new facility which will be located along First Street at Maple Street. I wish them the best.
I also must past along my thank you to all that had anything to do with the new Glenwood City Municipal Building. The planners, the Contractor, the City Council, City Crew, and anyone else that was involved. The $2.3 million dollar building is a great addition to our main street.
Thanks for reading! ~Carlton
