Trying to limit free speech
Over the past couple dozen of years, many people and organizations have tried to silence voices that they do not agree with. A case in point is when Twitter banned President Trump from its platform back in January of 2021. He is still not allowed to use that service.
I hate to bring it up again what freedoms we have under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The five basic freedoms are: Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition.
The Second Amendment gives us the right to be armed.
We as Americans should be able to exercise all five of those freedoms, without fear of financial or physical harm.
Watching the daily news, one is quickly made award of the forces that would stop others from using one of their rights, especially the right to free speech. Even I in this heavenly green space we call home, have come under attack for what I have written and been told to shut up. What I usually get is that “I am going to cancel my subscription.”
What was in the national news of this past week was that Elon Musk purchased almost ten percent of Twitter and spoke about the freedom of speech, which prompted several Twitter employees to threaten to resign, because they have been censoring all that is posted on that site and allowing only their political views to be viewed.
From Andrew Cropuchettes, the founder and CEO of Red Balloon, which was founded in 2021 as the solution to the ever growing problem of Government overreach and cancel culture involving the American workplace.
He concluded; “Twitter and many liberals are apoplectic over Musk’s call for free speech protections on the site. Leftist columnist and former Clinton labor secretary Robert Reich recently warned that censorship is ‘necessary to protect American democracy.’ For Reich and liberals, free speech is a nightmare.”
Since Elon Musk purchased that ten percent of Twitter, he is now offering to buy the entire platform for $43 Billion bucks.
Musk is the CEO of Tesla. Tesla is an electric vehicle manufacture and clean energy company and is also the biggest seller of plug-in electric vehicles. It’s model 3 sedan, which came out in 2017, is the world’s all-time best selling plug-in EV, having sold more than 800,000 before the start of 2021.
“Posterity! You will never know how much it cost the present Generation to preserve your Freedom! I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven, that I ever took half the Pains to preserve it.” ~John Adams, second president of the United States.
So, lean your voice to free speech and the other four freedoms we enjoy.
Another item that caught my eye on Monday morning was that the President’s dog “Major” has bitten several Secret Service members.
White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, is being criticized for misleading the press about the incidents.
Easter Sunday, before the ham dinner at my in-laws, I watched Franklin Graham deliver his Easter Message from Lviv, Ukraine, which I enjoyed very much. “God is our only hope,” he said.
Thanks for reading! ~Carlton
