Are we doomed?
I once read a piece that stated something like this. “If the public gets access to the government checkbook, we are doomed as a nation.”
With all the money that the government has sent to the American public this year, looks like that is what is happening. According to a report that I heard over the past weekend, there are over eleven million unfilled job openings in the United States.
Those jobs are not being filled because workers are staying at home just waiting for that check from the IRS or the extended unemployment payments.
Someone sent me a clipping of a opinion piece about government checks and that piece concluded by saying; “The point is to condition American families to government benefits before the middle-class bill arrives in the future in the form of higher payroll, value-added, or energy taxes. There is no free entitlement state.”
The current bill now before congress calls for some $200 billion earmarked for “Child Credit.” It’s a one-year extension of the pandemic era child credit, which provides parents with $350 every month per child, under six years and $250 per month per child ages six to 17.
Families that do not earn enough money to qualify for tax liability will be eligible to continue receiving the full child tax credit beyond the one-year period.
Other items in the bill include some $555 billion to fight climate change. $400 billion for universal pre-K for three and four-year-olds and $200 billion for everyone to get four weeks of paid leave. I’m going to be the first one in line for that four-week paid vacation.
As a nation, we are going to spend more than half a trillion dollars to fight climate change while China and several other countries continue to build coal fired power plants.
But, there may be hope. In an article in the Daily Torch written by Catherine Mortensen who is a Vice President of Communications at Americans for Limited Government, where the headline is: “Americans aren’t buying what Biden is selling. They can’t afford to. Americans are waking up to the cold hard facts; there is no free lunch. Eventually the bill has to be paid.”
Mortensen continues, “Americans don’t feel the direct payments or expanded child tax credits doled out earlier this year helped them much, and they don’t see Democrats’ signature legislation as addressing their top economic concern – inflation.
“Additionally, they’re down on the job Biden is doing, don’t give him much credit for the direct payments or tax credits, and have soured on the direction of the country.
“Socialism doesn’t work. Socialism has failed everywhere it’s been tried. Biden’s and his fellow Democrats’ socialist spending spree has lead to crippling inflation. Democrats thought they could buy people’s votes. But, the truth is, handouts are not sustainable, they incentivize people to stay home, until the money runs out, which it always does. Not only does it leave them broke and unemployed. They now have to deal with inflation.”
If this was a normal avenue of doing things, I would suggest that you get a message off to the president and to our United States Senators, Baldwin and Johnson, and hope they act on your suggestion. But, I feel that the Democrats will do almost anything to stay in power.
If you don’t believe me, just look at the immigrants coming across our southern border, they are now suggesting that illegal immigrants be given the right to vote. They are pushing state hood for Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, which will no doubt elect Democratic Senators and give the Democrats full control of the senate. In order to get their agenda done, they will pack the Supreme Court.
The Democrats are now in power and have done nothing to address the public’s distrust of our election system. Done nothing to get the supply chain up and running so that the shelves in stores are stocked.
The mid-term elections are now less than a year away, and everything that I see or read says that the Republicans will regain control of both houses. I wish that I shared that view.
Thanks for reading! ~Carlton
