Gun sales boom!
Sales of guns hit a new record on Black Friday with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducting 187,585 National Instant Criminal Background Systems (NICS) check on gun sales and transfers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
That information is from a site called GUN DYNAMICA.
“The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reports the Black Friday 2021 NICS checks surpassed those of 2020 which came in at 185,645.” It was also reported that the FBI performed a total of 687,788 NICS checks during the week of Thanksgiving including the Black Friday figure.
Gun violence is a big problem in this country and around the world. According to figures that I was able to obtain that in 2019 there were 39,707 gun deaths in the United States with about twice that number receiving injuries in shooting. Sixty percent of the gun deaths were from suicides.
I still believe that gun violence in this country could be reduced if we could control drugs.
Lets compare that to deaths on the highways that average about 38,000 annually with around 4.4 million people injured in traffic crashes during the year. How would you receive a program that attempted to do away with your vehicle? Last week I reported that about 93,000 lose their life to drugs each year.
Following the Rittenhouse verdict last month, those that voiced their negative opinion about the jury’s decision blamed the gun for what happened in Kenosha. But when some deranged driver plowed his SUV through parade watchers in Waukesha, no one blamed the vehicle, and rightfully so.
Gun sales have been high for a long time ever since Obama was president and just try to buy some ammunition; you may find the shelves bare.
I am going to classify those who have a number of guns as “Gun Collectors.” I have several guns, but not enough to call myself a collector. I do have a collection of “Nut Crackers” including the set of the four stars of the show “Wizard of Oz,” including Dorothy, The Coward Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow.
My late wife, Paula, collected earthenware such as Red Wing pottery and Watts Pottery. I still have that collection which numbers more than a hundred pieces.
But back to the gun issue, this country could not control booze back a hundred years ago, drugs are overrunning us and there is no way that I can see that we could take guns away from the populist. And I would stand with those gun owners, if that were every tried.
“No Guns, No Freedom,” is the slogan of many gun owners. We are now looking at threats from China and Russia and if President Biden does not play his cards right, we may see some sort of conflict in the near future. Just recently China and Russia signed some sort of agreement that may put us against the wall.
But, both of those countries know that the largest standing army in the world is the armed deer hunters in the United States, with 15.4 million licensed deer hunters.
