QUILT OF VALOR — Sally Johnson of Colfax presented a Quilt of Valor she had made to William C. Yingst Jr., school district superintendent, during the Veterans Day program at Colfax High School November 11. Johnson’s husband, Glen (Pete) Johnson, was a Vietnam veteran who died in an accident in Minneapolis in 2011. Johnson said she did not know how she was going to get through her grief, so she started making Quilts of Valor that she presents to veterans. Johnson said she makes two of every quilt, one to keep for Pete and one to give away to a veteran. The Quilt of Valor was a complete surprise to Yingst, who is a retired Command Sergeant Major with the United States Army.
