Dunn County Board appoints A. Sifia Jevne as county treasurer

By LeAnn R. Ralph

MENOMONIE — The Dunn County Board has appointed A. Sifia Jevne of Menomonie as the county treasurer for the remainder of the unexpired term of office created by the resignation of Doris Meyer.

The Committee on Administration interviewed three candidates for the county treasurer position, said Paul Miller, county manager, at the Dunn County Board’s April 21 meeting.

The unanimous consensus of the committee was to recommend that the Dunn County Board appoint Jevne, he said.

Jevne has worked for the county’s finance division for several years and principally has worked on finance for the public health department, Miller said.

“We’re glad she stepped up, but now that leaves a vacancy at finance,” he said.

Jevne will begin her duties as treasurer on May 3.

The former Dunn County Treasurer, Doris Meyer, resigned from the position earlier this month.

Dunn County Clerk Julie Wathke also has resigned as county clerk.

Both the county clerk and the county treasurer are elected positions, and both Meyer and Wathke were elected to their positions for four-year terms in the November of 2020 election.

The candidates appointed to the clerk and treasurer position will serve the remainder of the terms for clerk and treasurer until the terms expire January 6, 2025.

If the appointed treasurer and clerk choose to run for their positions, they will be on the ballot in the November of 2024 election.

Wathke, of Boyceville, was appointed county clerk in October of 2013 to fill the remainder of the term left by the death earlier in the year of Marilyn Hoyt and was then first elected to the position in 2016.

Prior to becoming the county clerk, Wathke served as the clerk and then the clerk-treasurer in the Town of Sherman.

Meyer, of Colfax, was appointed as county treasurer in September of 2017 to fill the unexpired term of Dunn County Treasurer Megan Mittlestadt, who resigned in July of that year.

Wathke’s last day as county clerk was April 15.

The Committee on Administration was scheduled to interview candidates for county clerk on April 22.

Miller told the county board at the April 21 meeting that four candidates were going to be interviewed.

The Committee on Administration will have a recommendation for the Dunn County Board to appoint a clerk at the May county board meeting, he said.

According to her Facebook profile, Jevne is originally from Durand.

Deputy Treasurer Angela Wagner has been fulfilling the responsibilities of the office of county treasurer, pursuant to state statute.
