Are we doing our part in this pandemic?
Are we as citizens doing our part to help stop the spread of this deadly virus COVID-19? What we can do is stay at home and not gather in groups.
The newspaper business in one of the essential business according to the emergency order issued by Governor Tony Evers. I think in this area, most people are adhering to the governor’s order. There are a number of local business with closed signs on their front door and right now I need a hair cut, but the barber shops are closed and if this lasts for the rest of April, I may need to go to city hall and get a dog license.
Last Tuesday afternoon as I was delivering newspaper to Colfax and Elk Mound I noticed that the Red Cedar River was running high in Colfax, and when I left Elk Mound I decided to go to Cedar Falls to see how much water was flowing over the dam here. It has been a number of years since I was last in Cedar Falls and water was over the dam and it was a magnificent sight and I took several pictures, as did a young man that also had the same idea I had.
As I approached the Red Cedar River at Cedar Falls there were four homemade signs in the road ditch that read, “Don’t Ever Lose Hope.” What a touching gesture someone did and I was moved.
But as the “Safer at Home Order” continues I am getting sore in the bottom from sitting and watching the TV. So, I thought maybe I should get a book and read it. I have a book on the shelf by Tab Hunter and his life that I have not read and I found it and started to read.
I told my capably assistance, Carole, about the book on Tab Hunter’s life, and she said, “Who’s Tab Hunter?” Well, I guess that if you are under sixty, you have no idea who Tab Hunter was. He was the heartthrob movie actor of the 1950s and 60s doing over 40 films. He died in 2018 at the age of 86.
Hunter signed my book seven years ago, when Paula and I attended a reading that Hunter along with Joyce DeWitt did the “Love Letters” at a small theatre in Sedona, AZ. We were vacationing there at the time.
And, if you don’t know who Joyce DeWitt is, she starred along with John Ritter and Suzanne Somers in the ABC hit “Three’s Company” that ran from 1977 to 1984.
Paula and I visited with both Hunter and DeWitt after their show was over and sharing the same last name with Joyce, the question came up “are we related?” but we could not find any common ground that we were, but did have a good visit. Joyce also signed the book for me.
So, let us continued on doing our part and hope this will end soon and things can get back to normal. But some think that this will change the way we live forever, I hope not.
Thanks for reading! ~Carlton
