BOYCEVILLE — Six candidates are running for three positions on the Boyceville Village Board in the April 7 election.
The candidates are Jonathan Farrell, Laura Kincade, Michael Ludwig, Megan Mittlestadt, Robert Rieckenberg and Keith Sorensen.
The Tribune Press Reporter sent out questionnaires to the candidates.
Here are Jonathan Farrell’s answers to the questionnaire.
• What is your occupation?
Engineer (Oxbo International in Clear Lake, WI)
• Tell us about your family.
Wife – Brandee, Son – Elijah, Daughter – Eleanor and Son – Ivan.
• Why did you decide to run for election?
I have served on the board since 2008. I enjoy serving on the board.
• What makes you suited to serve on the village board?
The years I have already served on the village board has done the most to prepare me to continue to serve on the board. My experience on the board has provided me opportunity to learn how to work productively with a variety of different personalities, it has taught me to ask for input from village employees and professionals the village contracts with (the village’s civil engineer, the village attorney, the village financial auditor).
• What issues do you see as being the most important for Boyceville?
The board should do what is in their power, to encourage business/economic development and provide opportunity for housing development. At the same time, maintenance/repair/improvement/replacement of the infrastructure and facilities the village already has, must be given the proper amount of attention. Furthermore, the village should continue to partner with the school, the Community Action Club, the Lions Club, the airport booster club and other groups for the betterment of the community.
• What issues would you like to see addressed by the village board?
The board has recently made a renewed effort to get the commercial lots in Boyceville developed, by teaming with a new realtor. Efforts are underway to get the village ordinances updated, create a plan for maintenance/updating of assets at the treatment ponds and revising the Sewer Discharge and Use Agreement with an industry in the village. Upcoming items include planning for the re-surfacing of the interior and exterior of the water tower in the next few years, planning for making additional lots available for homes in the village, creating a plan for more aggressive sewer line inspections and preventative maintenance and petitioning the federal government for aid to resurface the airport runway.
• Why are you the best candidate?
I feel I have served the Village of Boyceville well and would like the opportunity to continue to do that for many more years.
• What else would you like people to know?
I would like to thank the residents of the village for giving me the opportunity to serve them for the past 12 years, by electing me to the village board. I would also like to ask them to give me the opportunity to serve them for another 2 years.
