A Boyceville Police Officers was honored for his actions of January 19th for talking a possible suicidal subject into putting down his weapon and seeking help.
At the Village Board Meeting on February 10th, Police Chief Greg Lamkin presented the award to Officer Sergeant Peter Rud. The Boyceville Police Department Lifesaving Commendation reads as follows:
“On January 19, 2020, Sergeant Rud was dispatched to a welfare check for a possible suicidal subject who was armed with a firearm. He immediately responded and evacuated the family members of the suicidal subject for their safety. With the assistance of the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Rud was able to talk the subject into surrendering and transferred him to a facility for mental health treatment.”
The Commendation continued, “He displayed courage in facing a subject armed with a loaded handgun, diligence in ensuring the safety of the subject’s family, and compassion in his encounter with and treatment of the subject. Sgt. Rud has and continues to display the finest example of service and professionalism for the citizens of the Village of Boyceville.”
