I wish I had something better to talk about!
During this Holiday season we should be talking about Christmas giving and the good things that we have been blessed with. But instead, what we are faced with is the Impeachment of the President.
I switched the television back and forth Wednesday night to watch the proceedings in the House of Representatives as they voted along party lines to impeach President Donald Trump.
Impeachment sounds like such a bad word, but it is nothing more than a statement that accuses the President of doing something wrong or illegal. The house had passed two “Articles of Impeachment”, one is “abuse of power” and the other is “obstruction of Congress.”
What should happen after the house votes is that the “Articles” should be passed to the Senate where they would hold a trial. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, will be in charge of the proceedings in the senate trial. The 64-year old Chief Justice, John Roberts was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2005.
But after I watched the goings on in the house until late Wednesday night, the house, lead by the wicked witch of the west, Pelosi, voted along party lines to impeach.
But after it was over, Pelosi, spoke that she will withhold the articles from the senate unless they bow to her demands. She stated that she wanted to be assured that she would have the right to decided if the ground rules were in place to make it a fair trial. To date her party has seen to it that nothing was fair to Trump and I am sure that is what she wants the senate to provide her.
But, she knows that the senate will not vote to impeach the president. It takes 67 votes in the senate to remove the president and Pelosi knows, or should know, that at best there are only 45 Democratic senators that will vote against Trump, there are also two independent senators that may be against Trump.
So, here is what I suspect will happen. Pelosi will not forward the Articles to the Senate before the November election so that all Democrats running for re-election can say they voted to impeach Trump, and then blame the senate for not giving them a fair hearing and hope that the electorate will buy their garbage. I think that impeachment is dead in the water and may never see the senate.
Thanks for reading! ~Carlton
