BOYCEVILLE — After a long year that began in December of 2018, B Fit gym owners Eric and Terra Engeman opened their doors with a soft opening on Wednesday, November 6.
“It’s been an extremely long year,” Terra stated. “From the building and construction, it’s just a lot of work that went into it.”
The workout equipment was moved in on October 31, according to Eric, and they believed it was good timing with the work on Main Street wrapping up and several delays that pushed back the opening for the gym.
The couple was attempting to have the gym open by the 2019 Pickle Festival, but the timing wasn’t right, and with the date being pushed back, it allowed them to have the alley opened up more on the side of the building as well as being able to be hooked up to the new water and sewer lines.
The reason behind naming the gym B Fit was to fit into the new logo and theme that Boyceville has which is Be Boyceville, and the Boyceville Bulldogs.
“The Be plays a big thing in what Boyceville is,” Terra commented. “I hope the community backs the business, and I think there is a lot of interest in it. I’ve heard a lot of people say they want to work out, they just didn’t want to drive to Menomonie.”
For the Engemans it is two-fold on why they wanted to open the gym in Boyceville. According to Terra, they wanted to have something convenient for community members instead of having to make the drive to Menomonie and at the end of the day it made things easier for them as well when they wanted to work out with the kids.
“We are both active, and always talked about it,” Eric explained.
“I own another business in town,” Terra stated. “And I don’t want to have to travel out of town to workout, and we thought the town would benefit from this.”
It is Terra’s belief that the community would love to see Boyceville bounce back and hopes that the gym is a start and attracts people to Boyceville.
“We have a great school here, and it’s just another reason for people to move here,” Terra added.

Also for the members of the community who have grown to love Main Street Nutrition, the small business has moved into the right side of the building.
The couple hopes to see high school athletes coming to use the facility, stating it will be a great opportunity for the Bulldogs sports program.
“We are already seeing kids who want to workout on the offseason,” Terra said. “It will be so beneficial because the school is only open so much.”
Members are able to access the gym 24 hours a day seven days a week through an electronic fob access.
“It makes working out a little more interesting too because they have their weight room at the school, which doesn’t have as much as the gym as far as the cardio aspect,” said Eric. “When you sit in the same room and workout all the time, the scenery gets boring, and we wanted to keep things interesting and help out the sports program.”
Eric and Terra’s children, Ellie, Tristan, and Ella also enjoy using the equipment as part of their daily routine as they each participate in a sport within the Boyceville School District.
In a little over a week, since the November 6 opening, the Engemans have welcomed 75 members to the gym, and expect to see the numbers rise as time moves forward.
“The community definitely like the looks of the building here,” said Eric. “The other building was older and wasn’t in use after the previous owner retired.”
Long term, the Engemans believe the gym is a great focal piece for the community as both Eric and Terra are from Boyceville originally. According to Terra, she had thought she knew most everyone in Boyceville but has met many new people that she did not know lived in Boyceville.
“It has been a lot of fun, and I’ve met so many new people,” she stated. “Just interacting it seems they are enjoying themselves here.”
Outside of being business owners, Eric and Terra have other jobs. Eric has worked for Andersen Windows in Menomonie for 20 years, and Terra has owned and operated Safe Haven Adult Assisted Living in Boyceville for ten years.
“I went to school for business in marketing so it is what I like to do,” explained Terra.
There are different membership options which include single, couple, senior and students, but on average, it is $40 per month for members.
The couple will also look at involving the kids by hosting a class for kid’s yoga.
There will also be classes for adults such as yoga and yogalates. Yogalates is a cross between the strength training involved in pilates and the flexibility of yoga.
“We are hoping to build off those classes,” she said.
The amenities included for members are cardio equipment, free weights, machine weights, a classroom space, tanning, and members can enjoy Wi-Fi, surround sound, or find something to watch on one of the eight TVs located around the gym.
The grand opening for the gym, along with Main Street Nutrition, will be on Saturday, November 30, which coincides with National Small Business Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
