We must support our police!
In wake of the shootings lately and the shooting of a half dozen police officers in Philadelphia, PA, shows the country’s lack of respect for the people that protect us.
Last week in Minneapolis, the mayor was delivering a speech before the city council about his plan to increase the number of police officers in that city.
His speech was interrupted several times by the public that attended the council meeting. Most were there to convince the council that more police were not needed. But Minneapolis has seen its share of shootings recently and the mayor is trying to reduce the response time on 911 calls. Apparently some 911 calls are not answered in a timely manner because the department does not have the staff on call to answer them.
In Philadelphia an elected official had been bad mouthing the local police and some deranged individual, who has a long criminal record, took that to mean it was open season on police officers. Even with his long criminal record, he was able to buy a gun and open fire on officers.
Of course, the president is getting the blame for this as he gets the blame for everything that goes wrong.
I would like to copy part of a piece written by Rick Manning, President of Americans for Limited Government.
“Limousine liberals are endangering your Second Amendment rights. While these celebrities and billionaires can afford armed and trained bodyguards, homes surrounded by walls, high tech security and surveillance systems, panic rooms, and even armored cars, they want to disarm the average citizens who live in much more dangerous neighborhoods and can’t afford such elaborate security measures.”
The list is long of big names that have contributed millions to gun control. It has been reported that Michael Bloomberg, former New York City Mayor has spent as much as $135 million. Names like George and Amal Clooney, Jeffery and Marilyn Katzenberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw; all contributed $500,000 to the march for our lives recently.
How do we control guns? Do I have to remind everyone that it was not the gun that did the damage; it was the person that pulled the trigger. Recently six people were killed in an automobile accident in Minnesota; I did not hear anyone saying we should ban the car.
The focus is on the recent shooting in Dayton and El Paso, but in Chicago over the last weekend more people were shot in Chicago than were shot in the above two other cities. You don’t hear much about that and Chicago has one of the strictest gun regulations in the nation.
If history has taught us anything about trying to control people’s desires, must I remind you that we could not stop the sale of alcohol back about a hundred years ago. We cannot control drugs on the street and try as we may, we still use our phones while driving.
But, back to the matter of supporting our police, we need to stand behind them and provided the needed tools for them to do their job.
Thanks for reading! ~Carlton
