Immigration, not a new problem!
THE PRESIDENT SPEAKS…… “My fellow Americans, tonight, I’d like to talk with you about immigration.
“For more than 200 years, our tradition of welcoming immigrants from around the world has given us a tremendous advantage over other nations. It’s kept us youthful, dynamic, and entrepreneurial. It has shaped our character as a people with limitless possibilities, people not trapped by our past, but able to remake ourselves as we choose.
“But today, our immigration system is broken, and everyone knows it.
“Families who enter our country the right way and play by the rules watch others flout the rules. Business owners who offer their workers good wages and benefits see the competition exploit undocumented immigrants by paying them far less. All of us take offense to anyone who reaps the rewards of living in America without taking on the responsibilities of living in America. And undocumented immigrants who desperately want to embrace those responsibilities see little option but to remain in the shadows, or risk their families being torn apart.
“It’s been this way for decades. And for decades, we haven’t done much about it.
“When I took office, I committed to fixing this broken immigration system. And I began by doing what I could to secure our borders. Today, we have more agents and technology deployed to secure our southern border than at any time in our history.”
Remarks by President Obama on November 20, 2014
President Obama blamed the Republicans in Congress for not acting to pass bills that would improve the “broken immigration” system that he spoke about. But in the past five years nothing has changed, except now it is President Trump that cannot get a bill passed to make the needed change and he blames the Democrats for not helping with the problem.
I think that both parties are to blame because they will not work together to get things done. Each party does not want the other party to get a little credit for getting things done. So what happens is that nothing gets done except for a bunch of unfounded accusations levied against each other and millions already spent and more to come on one investigation after another.
Now I wish I could take a big stick and go to Washington D.C. and speak softly and put those lawmakers into a room altogether until they make peace and come out to work for all of us citizens.
First, it will be term limits. Twelve years is long enough for any one person to serve in the United States Congress and then let’s outlaw political parties demand that those people that we elected are loyal to the people that elected them and not to a political party. And, one other item is that we limit the time line on campaigning to about six months before the election. That means that no campaigning or primaries before May of an election year.
And as for fundraising, I don’t know how to make that work so everyone that wants to be a candidate can have the funds to get their program viewed by the voters of this nation. It is evident that the candidate with the most money is the candidate that gets his or her idea in front of the people.
Just to make my point, who was the candidate for president betweenTrump and Clinton, in 2016, that received over one-hundred thousand votes in our state of Wisconsin? Answer below!
Thanks for reading! ~Carlton
The candidate was Libertarian, Gary Johnson, who collected 106,674 votes in the 2016 presidential election.
