Jerome (Jerry) Victor Swenson, age 80, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2018, at home on the family farm. He was born August 15, 1938, the only child to Victor and Florence (Carron) Swenson. Jerome married Sandra Wahlquist on March 25th, 1961, and they were married for 53 years.
Jerry was a 1956 graduate of Cambridge High School in Cambridge, MN, and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany for two years. After his discharge he and Sandy purchased a small farm near Withrow, MN, as well as worked at Murphy Motor Freight. In 1970 they moved to their farm near Clear Lake, WI, where he and Sandy raised four children. After retiring from farming he went on to drive truck for Janice Annis, Marshall Wingar, and Buhr Brothers Inc. all of the Clear Lake area. One of his proudest accomplishments was driving accident free for one million miles. Jerry retired from truck driving to care for Sandy throughout a lengthy illness.
Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends every year on opening deer hunting where many stories and shenanigans transpired. Fishing trips were cherished but didn’t occur as often as he would’ve liked. One trip ended by picking dead minnows off the bottom of the boat as they had run out of bait, and another trip he used his gum as a last resort to catch his largest crappy ever.
Chore time in the barn was generally pure hard work with all hands on deck. But occasionally, a bit of fun would break out on very hot days when the water buckets and hoses would appear causing an all-out family water fight. His family has many lasting memories as well as life lessons learned during chore times.
Jerome is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra, and parents Victor and Florence Swenson. He is survived by his four children: Michael (Lynne) Swenson, Deborah (Gerald) Hoerres, Lisa Iverson, and Connie (Shawn) Young; as well as grandchildren: Michael Swenson, Marshall (Renee) Swenson, Tyler Hoerres, Jayda Hoerres, Leslie (Peter) Volkman, Dylan (Brittany) Iverson and Madeline Young; three great-grandchildren: Paislee Iverson, Nora Volkman and little brother, Hendrick Volkman.
