GARY LEE KLAT
Gary Lee Klatt, age 73 of Glenwood City, WI, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the V.A. Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, surrounded by his family.
Gary was born on June 19, 1945 in the City of Menomonie, Dunn Co, WI to Arnold and Margaret (Gesche) Klatt; Baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI.
Gary received an Honorable Discharge serving in the Vietnam War as an SP4 E-4 Specialist Marksman. The President of the United States of America awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Outstanding Meritorious Service during the period of April 1966 to March 1967 and the Purple Heart in February 1967 for being wounded in action. He also received the Combat Infantryman Badge for performing duties while under fire in an assigned infantry and Special Forces engaging in combat.
Gary has been a lifelong member of the American Legion; both in Glendale, AZ, Post 129 and American Legion Curry Ainsworth-Glenwood City WI, Post 168.
Gary was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and Milwaukee Brewers. He enjoyed hunting and was always known for playing pranks and using his charm. Gary spent most of his career employed with Century Fence Company of Knapp, WI and later with Rock-Tenn Recycling in St. Paul, MN.
Gary is survived by his Daughter; Donna (Loren) Paul of Colfax, WI and three Sons; Garylee Klatt of Little Falls, MN, Lance (Stacy) Klatt of Rosemount, MN, and Brent (Lisa) Klatt of Colfax, WI; seven Grandchildren; Courtney, Cassie and Chrystal Fregine, Samuel and Abby Klatt, Riley and Madison Klatt, three Great-Grandchildren; Cayden and Caeleigh Tiffany and Holden Cook, four Step-Granddaughters; Jennifer Steinbach, Gretchen (Theo) Ritter, Laura Stewart and Chelsea Paul; seven Step-Greatgrandchildren; Anna and Olivia Steinbach, Katalina, Nathaniel and Paityn Ritter, Sierra and Talen Stewart, Brother; Eugene (Debby) Klatt of Downing, WI, Sisters; Shirley Huey of Boyceville, WI, Sharon (Bert) Lansing of Spring Valley, WI and Joyce (Dan) Hellendrung of Boyceville, WI; Sisters-in-law; Sandra Klatt and Judi Klatt of Downing, WI; also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his Wife; Ardy Klatt, Parents; Arnold and Margaret Klatt, two Brothers; Wayne Klatt and David Klatt, Infant Brother and Sister; Valgene and Darlene, Nephew; Laverne “Butch” Klatt, and Granddaughter; Caitlyn Fregine.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, N4063 Veterans Way, Spooner, WI 54801.
