ALTON E. ROEMHILD

Alton E. Roemhild, age 91, of Menomonie, formerly of Boyceville, WI passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at The Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie.

He was born Jan. 17, 1927 in the Town of Sheridan, Dunn Co. WI to Edward and Georgia (Gravermoen) Roemhild.  He was baptized in 1927 and confirmed in 1940 at West Akers Lutheran Church.  He attended Vanceburg Grade School and graduated from Prairie Farm High School in 1944. On May 20, 1948 Alton married Jean Olson.

Besides farming, Alton was a carpenter for Wold Construction for 30 years and manager for Interstate Lumber Company for 10 years, retiring in 1989.

Alton was a council member and treasurer of West Akers Church for many years.  He was also president of Prairie Farm Board of Education for 12 years from 1965 to 1977.

After retiring, he drove for DET, delivered Meals on Wheels, and drove ambulance for eight years. Alton enjoyed dancing, especially old time and square dancing, and he enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.

Alton is survived by Jean, his wife of 70 years; three sons, Kevin (Linda) of Mohave Valley AZ, Jeff (Mary) of Boyceville, Scott (Renee) of Eau Claire; two daughters, Darcel (Tim) Hafele of Ridgeland and Kris (Mike) Broten of Prairie Farm; daughter-in-law Janice Roemhild of Prairie Farm; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Randy Roemhild; brother Lon Roemhild and sister Roselyn Lohfink.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at West Akers Lutheran Church in the Town of New Haven, Dunn Co. WI with Pastor Mark Woeltge officiating. Visitation was at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Burial was in Vanceburg Cemetery in the Town of Sheridan, Dunn Co. WI.  Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family.
