Viking girls, Mounder boys are victorious at Colfax Track Invite

COLFAX — The Colfax girls won their own home track and field invitational last Thursday while Elk Mound captured the boys’ team title.

Deuces were wild for the Vikings’ girls who took a pair of firsts, seconds, thirds and fifths and three fourths in the May 3 meet to nip Glenwood City by a single point and come out on top of the 11-team standings. The Colfax girls finished with 84.50 points and Glenwood City tallied 83.50 to place second. Altoona was third with 72 points, Mondovi had 70 and Elmwood/Plum City totaled 69 to round out the top five.

Elk Mound’s girls team did not have a top finish but recorded a pair of second- and fourth-place finishes along with a third and three fifths to place ninth with 55 points.

Eau Claire Regis pushed the Elk Mound boys through out the competition but the Mounders, who racked up eight first-place finishes and four thirds, were able to hold off the Ramblers for the title, 144.5 to 131. Durand came in third with 84 points, Mondovi finished with 71 and Colfax posted 67 points to take fifth powered by four first-place finishes.

Both Colfax and Elk Mound, who also ran in Mondovi on Monday (May 7), wrapped up their regular-season schedules yesterday competing in a large invitational at Colfax. The squads will then spend the rest of the week preparing for the Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet to be held in Mondovi next Tuesday, May 15.

Colfax

Sophomore Morgan Jensen and the 4×200 m relay team scored the Lady Vikings only first-place medals but it was enough to help carry Colfax to the top of the girls’ final team standings as they scored several second through fifth place finishes.

Jensen continued to dominate in the discus throw. She flung the discus 113’ 4” at last Thursday’s home meet to best second-place finisher Paulina Weinke of Boyceville by more than four feet.

The Colfax girls also won the 4×200 m relay event in 1:53.22 and took a second in the 4×100 m and third in the 4×800 m relays.

Two other members of the Lady Vikings’ talented sophomore class, Morgan Schleusner and Kameri Meredith captured second and third respectively in the 300 m low hurdles and 100 m high hurdles. Schleusner was clocked with a time of :50.90 in the 300s and Meredith posted a :18.22 in the 100 m event.

Junior Emma Hurlburt placed fifth in the discus.
