Kevin Bygd announces candidacy for Dunn County Sheriff’s Office

Kevin Bygd, the current Captain of Field Services for the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, announces his candidacy for the Dunn County Sheriff’s position being vacated this year with the retirement of Sheriff Dennis Smith at the end of this term.

Kevin Bygd comes into this race for the Sheriff’s position with over 28 years of experience with the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office. Kevin has experience in all areas of the Sheriff’s Office starting his career there as a jailer/dispatcher in 1989.

Along with jail and dispatch experience Kevin has been a Patrol Deputy (1994-2002), Civil Process Deputy (2002-2005), Patrol Sergeant (2005-2013) and currently Captain of Field Services since 2013.  In his position of Captain, he oversees all law enforcement functions of the Sheriff’s Office and supervises all sworn personnel, with the exception of the Sheriff and Chief Deputy. Kevin is the Highway Safety Coordinator for Dunn County, Chair of the Dunn County Safe Schools Committee and ALICE Instructor for schools, churches and businesses. He is a state certified firearms/use of force instructor, former Master Instructor for TASER International and former Adjunct Instructor for Chippewa Valley Technical College’s Law Enforcement program.  He is certified as a Force Science Institute use of force analyst and has been appointed Sergeant at Arms by the past three presidents of the Wisconsin Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff’s Association and still serves in that capacity for the organization.  

Kevin also believes in serving the community outside of work. He has been a member of the Menomonie Lion’s Club for the past fifteen years and has been a volunteer youth baseball and softball coach for many years in both Colfax and Boyceville. He has also volunteered his time as a hunter safety instructor.

Kevin and his wife Sadie live in Boyceville and have three daughters ages 20, 16 and 13.

Kevin’s focus as Sheriff is safer schools for our children, continuing efforts to battle meth and heroin drug abuse and working towards streamlining the process of getting the help needed for people with mental health issues.
