EAU CLAIRE – A group of Vietnam veterans will share their stories with local students and the general public Tuesday, April 24 when they bring their Reflections of Vietnam program to Chippewa Valley Technical College.
[emember_protected] Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 351 of Appleton started sharing their stories about the war with high school students around the Fox River Valley in the 1980s. Later, they added display lockers and memorabilia to their presentations and are now sharing their experiences with high school and college students over a wider area around Wisconsin.
The lockers and displays that include actual equipment, clothing, photographs and other items are set up and people are encouraged to walk around and experience these pieces of American history. The displays will be set up from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. outside the Casper Conference Room inside the CVTC Business Education Center, 620 W. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire.
From 11 a.m.-noon and from 1-2 p.m., the veterans will hold two presentations inside the Casper Conference Room involving a round of storytelling by the veterans who experienced the war.
Leaders of the group say their goal is to provide an overview and background on the war, share personal stories, increase understanding and to encourage people to pay attention when there is talk of possible coming war. They do not advocate for any political agenda.
The public is invited to this free event, sponsored by CVTC’s Student Life office. [/emember_protected]
