Colfax Health and Rehab – 4-11-2018

News for the week of April 1st to the 7th:

We hope everyone had a great Easter Weekend. It was busy here at the Big Yellow House. We started out the weekend with our Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Petting Zoo. This fun event is sponsored by the 22ers 4-H and has been an Easter weekend tradition for many years.  Everyone had fun, including the residents who loved petting the animals and watching the kids having fun.

Then on Sunday we started out the day in the Square for a special Easter church service. The room was full as Pastor Hendrickson led us in our worship service and singing our favorite hymns. What a wonderful beginning to this joyous day! Lunch time found some residents going out with families, while others gathered here to enjoy the delicious Easter Dinner the Dietary Department prepared.

Monday morning our craft group met and continued working on some ongoing projects. Meanwhile it was cribbage games galore in the Square. Led by Al and Gus, it was an hour of fun and fast flying cards. The smell of fresh popped popcorn drew many to the East Lounge in the afternoon as it was time for our movie of the week. Residents enjoyed the 1960 Walt Disney’s movie Swiss Family Robinson.  What an action packed movie and all agreed, one of their favorites to watch.

Tuesday morning activities included a turtle named Tommy and some bean bags. Add some residents and it makes for an hour of bean bag tossing fun. The afternoon was quite “puzzling”, as residents gathered to put together their favorite jig saw puzzles. It’s always fun as a group, if you don’t see a piece you need, someone else will find it for you! After the puzzles were complete, we got out our pencils and completed a few word games too.

Pastor Matt Saarem led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. Rich Schroeder entertained us in the afternoon. He always draws a crowd as his beautiful voice and talented guitar playing echoes through the halls.

Thursday morning, residents gathered in the East Dining Room for our weekly volleyball tournament. This activity brings out our competitive side, and all agree it’s a fun way to get some exercise. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle, Patty and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly.

The Catholics gathered Friday morning for rosary group led by Loretta. Later we held our weekly Gospel Sing a Long. We love picking out our favorite hymns to sing. Kathy and Bruce led us in this hour of music,   prayer and fellowship. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.

Highlights for next week’s activities include music by Billy Krause and Dan the One Man Band. Residents will also enjoy fellowship with Jordan Herrick and to end the week we will dining at the Green Leaf Café.

Until Next Week, Barb Stobb, Activity Director
