Dunn County Board candidate Dist. No. 4: Ronald Score

BOYCEVILLE  — Ronald P. Score of Boyceville will be one of two candidates on the ballot in the April 3 election for the Dunn County Board District 4 position.

The other candidate is Pamela Powers of Boyceville.

District 4 covers the Town of Otter Creek, the Village of Wheeler and parts of the Town of Hay River and the Town of Tainter.

Score is a supervisor for WestCAP, working in the weatherization department for 12 years. He is a lifelong resident of Dunn County, graduated from Boyceville High School and served in the United States Navy for three years. He has been married for 27 years and has two children and six step-children.

Here are Score’s answers to the questionnaire sent out by the Colfax Messenger and the Glenwood City Tribune:

• Why did you decide to run for the Dunn County Board of Supervisors?

I’m running to give people a choice. It seems like many districts in Dunn County only have one person running unopposed year after year. I feel like no one seems to care if people run for board positions. I would like to see that change. I want to represent the people that live in my district and my county.

• What makes you particularly suited to serve on the county board?

I care about what is going on in our area. Times are changing and there are many different variables in life. Things can be made better if people work together. So I’d like to represent District #4 and take time to listen to their concerns and/or problems to help improve situations. I’m ready to take on new challenges to serve my district and Dunn County.

• What issues do you view as being the most important for the Dunn County Board?

A. Juvenile detention facilities — there is discussion of counties building their own facilities to house juvenile offenders. The county would take charge of these facilities. The state would have to give funds to help out.

B. Shoreland zoning — we need to protect our lakes, streams and rivers. Water is a precious commodity to us all. The Wetland and Shoreland Zoning Ordinance should be looked into more. I would work to insure that they are protected.

C. Neighbors of Dunn County Nursing Home — I want to be confident of the quality of care for residents of our county nursing home. I would want to look at the financial status and feasibility of our nursing home. I would be looking at all these issues if elected.

D. Maintaining roads and bridges — I would work to provide the best highways permitted with the dollars and funding available.

• What do you believe to be the biggest challenges facing Dunn County?

The biggest concern of mine is the welfare and health issues of many citizens in this county. School safety and budgeting are also important issues.

My decisions in this position would be based largely on listening to the citizens’ voices and input of District #4, Dunn County.
